Up for sale is a 1972 BMW 3.0CS. The production date is 7/72. I purchased the coupe last year from the estate of a former BMW mechanic. According to the extensive paperwork, he was the 3rd. owner. The service records are remarkably complete and date back to 1973. This coupe was originally purchased from B&B Foreign Car in Santa Clara, California. It had been sitting for quite some time under a tattered car cover in a shed when I purchased it. There are a few bumps and bruises here and there. The paint is tired but very presentable with much of it being original although clearly some of the panels have been repainted. I did remove the inner trunk lid liner to have a look and there is no evidence of body work. There is some surface rust and discolored areas as shown but there is no 'real rust' and certainly no rust through. I believe that my assessment overall is fairly accurate, but you are welcome to come and perform your own inspection. The engine is a later version 3.5 liter with coated headers. It starts immediately and idles as normal. The transmission shifts a bit abruptly when cold but mellows out some after warming up. There are some old invoices showing transmission work from many years ago. The brakes seem to work fine with no obvious pulling and there are stainless brake hoses installed. The Toyo tires have less 100 miles according to the paperwork! The power windows do work, as do the instrument gauges. It is evident that this project was a labor of love for the previous owner before he passed. Although it seems mostly complete, I have not driven it on the open road and I strongly recommend having the car inspected and serviced before driving for any distance.
