Vehicle Detail
Purchased this car in Oklahoma in 1995 with about 68,000 miles on it. Moved to Arizona in 2001. Car was driven occasionally, but then sat for close to 10 years. Shipped the car to Road Race Engineering (RRE) (Santa Fe Springs, California) in November of 2010. Took delivery of the car from RRE in August of 2011, after extensive work (see below). The car drove great for the 7 hour drive to Tucson, Arizona. Drove it for a while, after getting the emissions check and tags (both of which just expired in December of 2013). Had trouble with keeping the battery charged, as it would be dead after a day or two of being parked. Tried working this issue, but was stumped (I do most of my auto work myself, but have been traveling so much for work, that I rarely have the opportunity anymore), so I sent it to a mechanic in town. They informed me that the fuel injection was being powered by the Engine Control Unit (ECU), and that another ECU would cost $1,500+. I told them that I did not want a new ECU, as this ECU was modded and programmed using a dynomometer. I told them I would come and get the car, but the guy thought he would do me a favor and installed a toggle switch for the fuel injection power line (I was not thrilled with this, but it does act as a good theft deterrent). Including all spare parts (ie: the stock fog lamps (removed for the Front Mount Intercooler); A/C compressor and associated H/W (removed for the intake); stock cams; etc). Included is a complete set of factory Service Manuals (Volume I - Engine, Chassis, & Body, and Volume II - Electrical), both hard copy, and on disc as PDF files. The chassis and body are rust free, and the paint is okay (no peeling), but is what one would expect from a 22 year old car. Also, I forgot to mention that the lighter socket is broken, but i did buy an entire console (correct interior color) just to get the lighter, just not installed, yet. The transmission shifts great, no notorious 2nd gear crunch. As mentioned, the clutch is a brand new ACT 2100, with a new lightened flywheel (all work done by RRE). When RRE had the car on the dyno, they told me how solid the car ran (not requiring any repairs, etc., between runs). Probably the best they had seen from a first generation (1G) Talon. I made a crazy deal with my wife that I would sell this car, if she bought a particular car (she was looking at several, and there was one car in particular that I really liked). Wouldn't you know, she went and bought that car JUST so I would sell my Talon! Work performed by RRE (~154K miles) (search for Road Race Engineering for their homepage): NOTE: Partial list. A test drive is possible, but the car is not currently tagged. I will work with you in arranging transportation. Just as a point of reference, I paid $400 to ship it from Tucson, AZ to Santa Fe Springs, CA (about 480 miles). This vehicle is being sold "AS IS" "WHERE IS" with no warranty expressed or implied.
