Vehicle Detail
We have long dreaded this day. Eight and a half years ago, we flew to Iowa to pick up this car after buying it on EBay. We have driven it over 90,000 miles. It has been superb, and has saved us a fortune in gasoline costs. Yes, we really do get 55 mpg or better on the highway. Obviously, driving styles will bring different results, but on the interstate we routinely get 56 mpg, with a personal best-tank of 59.75 mpg! In daily local commuting, we normally get 42 unless I am trying, in which case we get about 46 mpg. Our worst tank ever, in the dead of winter, was 38 mpg. So, let’s start with the bad stuff – it is rusting out. This is the only reason we are selling. It still runs great and is very dependable, but the rust is progressing. I found that there is rust around two of the bolts that mount the rear axle. So, for that reason, I AM ADVERTISING THIS AS A PARTS CAR. We drove it to work today, and it still goes down the road fine, but that will be at your risk. I believe that you could readily drive it home to anywhere, but that is your decision, and my opinion should not be considered. I am also not liable for your decisions. The driver’s seat has some tears (in typical Civic fashion), and the carpet is worn out on the driver’s side. The dome light does not work reliably, and never has. In 2010, a highway department plow-truck backed into the back of the car, breaking the back window and lightly damaging the window frame. This was repaired, and new rear fenders were welded in, which explains the difference in the paint color at the back. This did not affect the drivability of the car. How about some good stuff? Well, it runs great and gets great gas mileage. The VX model has a special engine with unique camshaft lobes that allow for very frugal fuel consumption below 2500 rpm. Since 2000 rpm in 5th gear is 65 mph, it is easy to save fuel. The engine has over 248,000 miles, but still doesn’t need oil added between oil changes. The 5-speed transmission growls a bit at idle, but shifts smoothly, and had a new clutch last year. The distributor was replaced a few years ago, and the starter was new in 2013. All the glass is intact, although the windshield is somewhat pitted. There are lots of usable parts – the hood, both doors, and front fenders appear to be pretty much rust-free. The car has the original alloy wheels, and all the center medallions are intact. Inside, the dash console all works. There are aftermarket cruise control and stereo. The stereo display does not light up, but it works fine otherwise, and has an aux input jack. The air conditioning works great. The tires are good – two of them were new last year. You will also receive the owner’s manual, and a CD version of the shop manual. The title is clear, and you will receive a bill of sale for the actual amount of the sale. I don’t play games. We have loved this car and have taken good care of it. We are non-smokers, and the interior is pretty clean. I have attempted to describe the car thoroughly, and to provide clear pictures that represent the condition. Your bid is a legally binding contract, so I STRONGLY recommend that you or a friend look this car over before bidding. Bid intending to buy. I expect to receive a deposit of $300 within 72 hours of the auction end, with the balance paid within 10 days. The deposit may be via PayPal, but any amount over $300 should be in cash. Sorry, no personal checks or money orders.
