Vehicle Detail

Here is a beautiful classic British car. The Lotus Elan +2. A very good mix of luxury GT and genuine Lotus sportiness. This car is in generally very good condition and is completely running and drivable. The chassis is in great condition. Underneath the car looks excellent with only surface rust in spots and no rot or major issues. The body too is excellent. The paint looks very nice and the car overall is very handsome but when you get very close you can see lots of little bumps in the paint. I tried to show some of the worst spots in the pictures and video. Despite this the car still presents itself very well and the paint is very shiny. Besides the bumps there are also a few scratches and touch-ups here and there but nothing major. The chrome is very nice and the glass is also good with just a few tiny chips in the windscreen. The Interior is also quite nice. The front seats are both in very good condition with no rips or splits. The back seat is good with just one small hole on one of the seat bottoms. the carpets are fair but a bit faded in places. The center console has a few cracks and chips. On the early +2's (like this one) it is a huge vacuum formed plastic piece that is very fragile and easily damaged. The dash top is excellent. The wood dash is nice with some wrinkles in the veneer. It looks as though someone made a replacement and omitted the glovebox although they did a very nice job. The headliner has a couple medium size holes (2" or so). Door panels are both nice. The seat belts are rather rough. There are some seat belt parts with the car not installed. All the instruments work. The oil pressure gauge goes up to about 10 psi when you turn the key on before the engine is started, but even taking this into account the oil pressure is excellent. The power windows work great. The heater/defrost works but is missing a few of the under dash ducting pieces. All the lights work and the Vacuum operated headlamps go up and down great. I believe this was originally a Canadian market car and has a few advantages over the Federal (US) version. Vacuum makes the headlamps go up instead of the other way around. This means when the car is parked the headlamps don't creep up after 10 minutes. Also it doesn't have the unsightly side marker lamps fitted to US models. It has 12v Negative ground electrics with a fairly new battery and alternator. The horn, wipers, turn signals etc all work. The windscreen washer does not work. The Engine is in great condition and a compression test reveals 160 PSI on all cylinders. The oil pressure is excellent. It has a header exhaust and the pipes and muffler all look to be in excellent condition. It also has what looks to be a very nicely machined home made intake manifold to replace the original emissions equipment version. The clutch works perfect and the gearbox shifts through all gears without any problems. There is a slight whine in 4th gear. The 4 wheel disc brakes work good with just a little pulsing. The brake boosters have been removed and bypassed but are included. They will need rebuilding if you want them re-installed (I prefer the pedal feel without them). The rear rotoflex couplings look old and could do with replacing or upgrading to CV joints. The steering is excellent and precise. The rear suspension feels very firm and may need new shocks or springs. The Bridgestone 185/70 R13 tyres are all in excellent condition. There is no spare or jack. There is also no lug wrench to remove the wheels though these are easily available for about $30. There are a few parts included with the car: The removed brake boosters, the original inlet manifold, some seat belt parts, windscreen washer bottles and pump plus misc other bits. The car was last licensed in Canada and has not yet been licensed in the USA. It was legally imported and import duty was paid. It comes with its Canadian title and import paperwork. The Elan can be viewed by appointment in Granite Falls, WA (near Seattle) Buyer is responsible for shipping costs and arrangements. I reserve the right to end the auction at any time. Car must be picked up within 30 days. Feel free to ask any questions Please watch the video of this car in action: On Oct-16-13 at 07:00:35 PDT, seller added the following information: Thought of a few things I thought worth adding: The Water pump was recently rebuilt which is a big plus since it is a common weak point on Twin cam engines and a lot of work to do. Also this car has a high quality electric fuel pump with a fuel pressure regulator and fuel pressure gauge mounted on the right inner fender (you can see this in one of the pictures). The drivers door is missing its check strap. The vacuum control switch that makes the headlamps go up and down is missing the knob although the switch works fine.
