Vehicle Detail
Up for auction is my 1978 CHEVROLET SHORT WHEEL BASE G20 CUSTOM CONVERSION VAN WITH SLIDING SIDE DOOR. I bought this van form one of the guys at the Austin Speed Shop a couple of years ago. The van is an ORIGINAL CALIFORNIA BLUE PLATE VEHICLE. When I bought the van it had nasty blue shag carpet throughout the van and my Sons and I spent 13 hours stripping all the carpet, foam, glue, screws, wood, etc. out of the van and what we found under all that mess was a clean rust free floor. The only rust on this van is mild surface rust and the van wears it's original paint and has never been damaged in any kind of wreck or in any other way. The van cleaned up very well, the 350 V8 starts right up and runs well with no smoke and the transmission shifts well. I have had new front springs and brakes installed but Southwest Brake in San Antonio (comes with invoice) and I had them check out the front end and it passed their inspection. The van has all of it's air conditioning equipment still installed but it does not blow cold, tilt steering wheel, power steering, power disc brakes and a sliding side door. I installed some very nice blue captains chairs that turns around to face the back of the van and the recline. I also installed a very nice rear seat that folds down into a comfy bed ( I did not bolt it down). This van was a camper conversion van and has a couple of holes cut into the floor about 2 1/2" around and a couple of small holes in the side of the van where water and electrical was brought into the van from the outside. The driver side vent window frame is broken but both windows roll up and down with no problems. The original keys fir the original locks and it has a clean California title. The tires will need to be replaced soon and there is a spare tire. I have also purchased a headliner and an aluminum ladder for the van but have not installed them. The van has wonderful patina and I left the paint alone so you can see what you get but my detailer said that with the right process the original paint can be brought back to a great luster. This van is clean, solid and rare and the van trend is coming back strong. Several top car guys I know have already bought and restored this type of van to stay ahead of the trend. The wheels are the wheels that came on the van but the spare is just a plain steel wheel but that is the way it came. The bumpers are very nice and straight and all the glass is good. The custom side windows that were installed by the customizing company are loose now that I stripped out the carpet on the inside walls, there were hard foam blocks all the way around the frame of the windows but they were crumbling so I removed them but they are easily replaced to tighten the windows up again. Overall this van is an excellent candidate for restoration or you can just drive it like it is. I would say that you could fly in and drive it home but the tires are bad enough that I cannot recommend that. Look at the pics of the van closely and see for yourself how nice this van is, I wished I could keep it but i can't keep them all. Please check out my feedback, bid with confidence and bid to win this VERY COOL 1978 CHEVROLET SHORT WHEEL BASE G20 CUSTOM CONVERSION VAN WITH LOW MILES. Thank you for looking at my auction, be sure to look at my other auctions and as always HAPPY MOTORING.
