Vehicle Detail
You are bidding on a 1974 Datsun 620 pickup with rare options: Datsun A/C, Automatic Transmission, Tachometer Beautiful truck with a $2,000 two stage paint job in original Datsun orange. I had it painted in the summer of 2011. This little Datsun truck spent most of its life in the dry air of Flagstaff, Arizona. I purchased it in 2009 from a man in the Phoenix area that said he purchased it just a year or two earlier from the original owner in Flagstaff. It had absolutely no rust and just a few minor dents. You won’t find many 39 year old trucks in this condition!A/C didn’t work when I purchased the truck but all it needed was a new compressor, dryer and to be charged up. I found the original York style compressor and it blows cold. The original Datsun A/C setup was the main reason I went all the way to Arizona to get this truck. You gotta have A/C in Texas even for a classic weekend cruiser! The guy I bought it from said he was told the engine was the original L18 and had not had any major repairs. I believe that to be the case too. It runs good and does use a little oil as you would expect an engine with 95k miles to do. I probably add ½ to 1 quart between oil changes. It had this weber carb on it when I got it but I did also get the original carburetor with automatic choke and the original air cleaner. I sent the original carb to California for a rebuild and used it for a few months but I had trouble with a couple of the bolts loosening and falling out after driving it a while. After I switched it back to the weber I read that this was pretty common and some lock-tite can take care of it. I never switched it back but wanted to since I like the original stock look with the air cleaner.Tires were purchased around the same time as the paint job. All 4 hub caps are heavy original Datsun that I found on eBay for about $250 a couple of years ago. When I first got it I had read about some upgrades you can do to improve the trucks performance without changing the stock look. I upgraded the alternator to a stronger one with an internal regulator (I did leave the stock regulator for looks though). I upgraded the radiator with the larger one for later model 620’s. I planned to upgrade the front drum brakes to disc but never got around to that. It still has drum brakes all the way around. I replaced all the shoes and as I recall I replaced a drum or two also. Emergency brake works good too.I have the original AM radio but it didn’t work very well so I found an old AM/FM Datsun radio and switched it. The FM works fine but AM doesn’t work very well on the new radio either. I think it might be the antenna connection now, not the radio. There is a single speaker in the right kick panel and it is original. I installed black carpet. It had the original rubber mats when I got it but they were in bad shape. I also replaced the original lap belts with retractable 3 point seat belts.I have the original seat that will go with it (see picture) but it had this gray cloth seat with head rests when I got it and I’m guessing the current one is more comfortable than the original and the headrests are nice to have. The dash was cracked so I ordered a plastic dashcap from Arizona. It looks great but in the hot Texas sun it warped at the top. I think it would have been fine if I had used a window shade when I parked it in the sun. I have a brand new dashcap just like the one that is on it and you will get it with the truck. This is NOT a “20 foot” or rattle-can paint job. You should be able to tell from the high res pictures that it is beautiful. All the windows were removed when it was painted. The front windshield was replaced and new rubber (ordered from Scott’s Old Auto Rubber inAustralia) was used on the front and back windows. I have new window welting for the door windows but have not installed it. The body is straight with the exception of two small dents over the windshield that just happened a couple of months ago when a tree limb fell on it in my driveway. I have included a picture where I have tried to show the small dents (sorry, I was battling sun and shade trying to get good pictures for this listing). The hood that is on it is an aftermarket hood and doesn’t fit as good as the original but I have the original hood for you but it needs some work. I also show a picture of some paint damage at the back of the hood. Both sides of the back of the hood are like this. I didn’t realize that the body shop had only put one bolt in the hood hinges so after a few months the bolts loosened and the hood started scraping the cowling and took some paint off before I realized it. The wheel covers in the bed have dents from where the truck was used as a truck (see picture) but the bed walls do not have any dents and the bed floor only has a few.I included a picture of the original paperwork that comes with it. It includes the owners manual, warranty card embossed with the original owner’s name, manuals for the original radio and Datsun A/C, a Datsun dealer directory from 1974, and warranty paper and maintenance book. I do not know if the current odometer reading of 95,304 is original. I have a clear Texas title that states "EXEMPT" under odometer reading. The original carburetor, air cleaner, seat, hood, and extra front and rear bumpers in the pictures are also included.I’m sure I have forgotten a few things. Please send me any questions you have and I’ll be glad to answer them. I’ll be glad to set up an appointment with you to see the truck if you are serious about bidding. All delivery/shipping costs are at the buyer’s expense. A $500 deposit is due within 48 hours of the end of the auction. The balance is due within 7 days of the end of the auction unless other arrangements are agreed to BEFORE the end of the auction. Ebay only allows the deposit to be paid by PayPal so the balance will have to be paid by cash in person.Thank you and happy bidding! ...TimOn Oct-08-13 at 15:38:27 PDT, seller added the following information: Added 10/8/2013:A few things I have been asked about and forgot to mention in the description above:The current carb is a weber with a manual choke. The choke handle has been mounted below the steering wheel beside the emergency brake handle. I have the original carb and it does have an automatic choke. The ebay listing is limited to 24 pictures so I had to leave out a few. If you would like a picture of the stock carb, air cleaner or anything else just send me a message. The original black seat is not perfect. You can’t see it in the picture but the back has about a 4 inch tear running vertically along the first seam (from the driver’s side) and about a two inch tear beside it in the next seam. There is also about a 1 inch puncture in the bottom on the driver’s side. There are other blemishes as well. I can send you close-up pictures if you are interested. It is currently registered as a classic with year-of-manufacture Texas plates. I paid about $40 for the these 1974 Texas plates that are in great shape and they will go with the truck. Instead of the annual registration sticker that would normally be on the lower left of the front windshield the classic registration is a little sticker mounted at the top of the rear license plate. You can see it in a couple of the pictures. The safety inspection is still required in Texas every year and the current inspection is good until December. Vehicles this old don’t have to pass an emissions test in Texas, just the safety inspection. On Oct-12-13 at 11:28:31 PDT, seller added the following information: Added 10/12/2013: A potential bidder came to see the truck today and pointed out that the truck has a separate transmission cooler (cooling is not currently routed through the bottom of the radiator) and that was not noted in the auction. I apologize for that oversight. I originally had a long rambling paragraph about changing out the radiator including adding the trans cooler but took out most of that paragraph and the cooler was lost in the editing. Here's the long rambling story: As noted in my listing I heard the radiator from a later 620 is bigger and would fit this earlier model. I ordered one from the internet and when I replaced it I realized that I had forgotten that the automatic transmission cooling is routed through a small reservoir in the bottom of the original radiator. The radiator I purchased was not for an automatic transmission. Rather than return the radiator I found another option to add a separate cooler for just the transmission. I thought the net results would be better for the truck with a bigger radiator plus more water volume without the auto transmission reservoir AND the transmission gets it's own cooler. In my opinion the only draw back was that the only place I could find for mounting a cooler was horizontally at the front of the truck and this could take away from the stock look. If you zoom in you can see it below the license plate in one of the pictures. It is about 16 inches long and I'll be glad to send you close up pictures if you send me a message. I will also note that the person that came by did say that potentially if you were sitting in traffic with no air flowing over the cooler it would be hotter than when it was routed through the radiator. This is not my daily driver so I have not sat in traffic for any long amount of time so I have not experienced this. I will also note that I do still have the original radiator (I guess I don't throw anything away) and you are welcome to it. It was about 4 years ago but as I recall the original radiator had no leaks. On Oct-13-13 at 12:21:14 PDT, seller added the following information: Added 10/13/2013: I have had a couple of questions about the payment method. The auction says cash in person is the only option for the balance after the deposit but that may not work for you if you are having a shipper pick up the truck. I can accept PayPal for the balance but it is up to you to be sure you can send the full amount by PayPal. A bank wire transfer is probably ok too as long as I can confirm receipt of collected funds before releasing the truck. I can also accept a cashier's check but it will have to clear as collected funds which may take up to a week after I deposit it before I can release the truck. If you have any questions please ask before the end of the auction.
