Vehicle Detail
This charming 1957 MGA coupe was found languishing in a dark garage in the Berkeley Hills. It was owned by an eccentric character who looked like an older Elton John. We became friends over free firewood, which he appreciated very much. One day he called to say he knew he would never get to the car and would I like a shot at it. I hurried over and struck a deal. Over the last 6 months, I have resuscitated the old coupe and just completed a 50 mile back roads circuit. It is indeed charming and has not been registered since 1979. I have done a total brake job, tune up, fuel tank, and that's about all it took. I had the starter redone at a reputable shop and it performs very well. The wiring is in a bit of a disarray and will need an expert to sort and patch or replace. The interior is also pretty bare. The seats are very soft and inviting. The back glass and gasket are also in fine shape. The body is astounding with not much rust and the floor boards still have the original varnish on them. The clutch slave cylinder was replaced and it shifts well. I have never topped 55 mph and the old pirellis still hold pressure and the road. The fuel gauge is not working and the interior lights are. There is a sizable door ding on the driver's side and the doors themselves are difficult to close. I replaced the strikers and they are needing further adjustment. I am running an aftermarket fuel pump as Moss was out of stock units. Overall I have a wonderful 57 year old '57 MGA Coupe. It's very graceful and is now reliable. It holds a charge, stops ok, and always starts right up. I get so many compliments on the car, it's overwhelming. It is poetry in motion and if it tickles your fancy, I will send it your way.
