Reserve Lowered!!! Up for auction is this beautiful 1966 Chevelle SS. Ok, lets start with the basics. Yes, This is a real SS big block car. The Cowl tag sports the numbers 13817 on the firewall. See attached picture for more info. This mean it was and always will be a Big Block SS. However, the original 396 that was in the car is not in the car any longer. It has been replace with a smooth running 454. It does however have a Borg Warner 4 speed manual transmission. Not sure if its the original one or not. I will try to determine that for those that are interested. Mechanically this car is in great condition. Runs and drives great. Plenty of power and transmission is topped off by a smooth shifting hurst shifter. No problems with overheating in any conditions. Traffic or not she stays cool. The rear end is a 12 bolt posi trac unit. Not sure if its original but its perfect. Not sure on the final drive ratio. I will work on that as well for those interested. Please ask. I can say its a good road gear. Purrs at 60 mph. Ok, now to the outside, the paint on the car is good. I'd rate it a 8.5 out of 10. Its been painted for several years. The chrome on the bumpers is near perfect as is the stainless. The wheels are 8" Corvette rallys. The beauty rings are like new. The center caps are showing a little age. Some minor pits. (see pics). All taillights, brake lights, turn signals, headlights etc. work perfectly. The hood is really the only problem with the exterior of this car. It is an aftermarket fiberglass hood. The fitment is a little off as it doesn't line up properly with the arch of the front fenders. It can be pressed down after closing but needs done after opening. This is what you see in the pics. Just want to try and explain all things that are wrong as well. But remember, this is a real SS big block we are talking about. These are all minor things. This car is worth big money completely restored. This car is an excellent driver. However, not show quality. I would not hesitate to drive it and enter it in all local cruise ins and car shows. Its a beautiful car. The car has manual front disk brakes, power steering, and a slick 4 speed which make it a blast to drive. There is no rust on the body, floor pans are solid as is the trunk area. A very solid car. I think the rear quarter panels have been repaired along the lower portion. A patch panel on each side. Work done several years ago and a very good job in this area. The interior has black bucket seats and a factory console. The console is original to the car so it shows a little sing of wear. Some minor pitting but still looks great. The carpet also shows a little sign of wear but is still in great shape. The seats have been recovers to original and look perfect. The fuel gauge works but no other do. No radio. All glass is perfect and roll up and down perfectly. Again, these are all minor things but I'm trying to tell all the problems as well. This car doesn't need much money spent on it to make it great. This baby ruled the road in 1966 and is a true prized possession, but she has to go. Someone is getting a true piece of American history. Good Luck and Happy Biding. For Questions Call Chester Mitchell (owner).....304-419-5806 Dale Belcher (Ebay friend)....304-687-1649 If Chester or myself I cannot answer your question right away. We will get you an answer. The car was purchased locally a few days ago and the previous owner is 5 minutes away. Thanks for looking....Dale (gciowner) On Sep-12-13 at 12:52:03 PDT, seller added the following information: Just a little more information. After talking to the previous owner, It has been brought to my attention that the transmission and rear end are original to the car. As mentioned before the shifter has been changed to a Hurst but that's is. Also, a correction on the body work. The body work and paint are only about a year and a half old. The car was taken all the way down to bare metal. The only repair made was a small patch panel on the passenger quarter panel. The driver side is all original. The engine has been rebuilt and has less than 1000 miles on rebuild. Work done by a professional engine shop in Charleston, WV (Givens). Still not sure on the HP but its strong. Thanks for looking. On Sep-13-13 at 05:53:00 PDT, seller added the following information: Update after decoding the cowl tag... This car was originally "Regal Red" with red bucket seats and console. Four speed, tinted front windshield, deluxe seatbelts. Built in Atlanta the fifth week of June 1966.
