1988 BMW 735i Sedan w/Sunroof It runs and drives. I think it would currently pass a safety inspection as is based on my limited driving of it, but don’t know that for sure. I bought this car as a project to replace commuting in my new Jeep and keep the miles down, but soon realized that I don’t have the time, space or tools to do projects any more. I know very little about this car but will detail here what I do know. When I bought it, it came with a borrowed dead battery and had to be jumped. Since buying it I’ve bought a brand new Sears Die Hard battery at $150 (because it said European on it) and a factory service manual. I’ve transferred the title and it is free and clear. I did not register it, so if the winning bidder wants to drive it away they will need to bring plates, permits or take their chances accordingly. Information I was given when I bought it: 1) It needs a torsion bar in the front that should cost approximately $100. I don’t know how accurate this is since I’ve never driven it at highway speeds. On our local gravel road, at 25-30 mph it seems to track fine and does not pull while accelerating or braking. 2) It needed a battery. 3) There were no accidents or body repairs to the previous owner’s knowledge. Pro’s that I do know: 1) It’s an Antique that runs and drives. 2) It appears to have been built in Germany, at least most of the labels and the one uner the rear seat are in German. 3) All the buttons and gadgets seems to work, (I just found out today that the headrests are electronically controlled). 4) It idles smoothly at about 700 rpm. 5) There are no rips or cuts in the upholstery that I’ve seen. 6) All gauges, and electronics seem to work fine. 7) There are almost no dents or obvious body damage other than 25 years or sunshine, (see cons below). 8) The sunroof and all windows work fine, without leaking. 9) The upholstery that appears to be leather is naturally worn but uncut or ripped up. The carpeting is good. Con’s that I do know: 1) Something drains the battery when the ignition is turned off. 2) There are some cracks in the paint on the very back of the trunk lid that may indicate bondo but I can’t tell for sure. No noticed anywhere else on the car. 3) There is rust at the bottom of both front doors, I wouldn’t call rusted out, but the worst rust I found on the car and detailed in the pictures. 4) When powered up, and the anti-theft code was entered into the radio, it tunes to stations but I was not able to get sound out of the speakers (that may be operator error because I am so unfamiliar with BMW’s). 5) The dash says that the Fog Lights are burnt out. I haven’t tried to replace them. 6) The cloth liner is starting to come loose in a couple of areas, most notably on the back deck and where the Sunroof Switch is mounted in the overhead. 7) The Sunroof switch has pulled away from the cardboard mounting area in the overhead but still works (pictured). 8) There is a K40 radar detector installed that doesn’t seem to power up but may be part of the battery drain problem. Bottom Line: 1) I would not sell this but I’ve got a surprise Property Tax bill and Vet bill that I need to pay without being late. I will not cancel the auction and sell outside of eBay, it will have to run its course. I will provide any additional or specific pictures requested if I can. I have never been underneath the car but I will try to accommodate any request I can for specific numbers or pictures as requested. 2) If someone wants to buy this and have it shipped: Our property will not accommodate an 18 wheeler, but there is adequate space at the end of our driveway for an 18 wheeler or car carrier to park and turn around. There is also truck stops about 8 miles away that I would be willing to drive the car to for pick-up in Falmouth, VA.
