Vehicle Detail
1971 Porsche 911T Coupe If you have been looking for a solid, honest early driver quality 911 this might be your car. Here are the details: Exterior: Paint- 8080 Metallic Silver- The car has been repainted at some point in the cars history (I would guess 10-15 years ago) in its original and desirable Metallic Silver. The quality of the work when done was average to average plus. It has good, even consistent shine and has few imperfections. It was not a windows out, bare metal, $15k paintjob, but it was also not a father and son garage project either. The car shows well, draws praise but it is more of a driver/5-footer Body- The body on this car is very straight with very good shut lines and gaps. It does not appear to have been in any type of major accident but has had some repairs, with both doors showing evidence of repair at some point in the past. Rust- The bane of any early 911 is rust. Anyone who has one that says it has no rust is probably mistaken with few exceptions. This car has always been a West Coast car, coming from Southern California to dry Eastern Washington about 8 years ago. There is some small bubbling that has not broken the paint at the bottom of both front fenders. The battery boxes have some corrosion that while not critical should be addressed at some point. Underneath the car is dry and clean. No other visible signs of rust, but it is an original 40 year old non galvanized Porsche… Body Parts- The car is wearing all of its original trim that is in surprisingly good condition. The drivers mirror is correct for a 72-73 but not for a 1971. Wheels- The car is sitting on its genuine original set of Fuchs Wheels that have not been refinished and show the amount of Patina you would expect. The tires are fairly new with good tread. Interior- Overall the interior is very original and presentable. The only change from original is the stereo in the dash. Seats: I am surprised how well the seats have held up, they have never been restored. The sliders and recliners all work well. The rear seats are nice and have date stamped rear belts, a nice touch. Carpet: The carpet is original and shows well with exception of the driver’s area which is worn and the driver’s door threshold, which shows the typical wear and tear of ingress/egress. Dash: The dash of course has the typical cracks in front of the speaker grille. Door panels: The panels are excellent as are the rear side panels and rear deck. The door pockets are quite nice but the vinyl is pulling away from the backing slightly. Electronics and gauges: Everything on the car works with exception of the clock. Trunk and accessories: The trunk carpet is in fair shape, the spare is present, and the tool kit bag is present but is missing most of the tools. Mechanical: Engine: The car has a NON- NUMBERS matching engine which is a correct 2.2 T motor, but deciphering the engine number indicates it started life as a 1970 2.2T Motor. It has been purported to have been rebuilt in the past but I have no documentation of that. The motor starts easily, makes good power, sounds great and makes you realize how small displacement can be WONDERFUL! It does have some intermittent hesitation on hard acceleration when not fully warmed up, I haven’t diagnosed the issue. It also has several oil leaks, leaving approximately 3-4 spots the size of a quarter on the ground if left to sit overnight. Transmission: The transmission is original and actually shifts very well. The shifter bushings have been recently replaced so it is not your typical sloppy 901. Synchro’s seem to work well, although every so often the 2nd gear synchro will bark at you if you are sloppy with your shift. History: I have a complete history from the current owner. I do not have any history on the car prior to 2005. As such I don’t have the specific details on if the motor was rebuilt, why it was swapped, when it was re-painted, etc. The odometer on the car reads 99,432 and based on the condition of the interior that looks about right, but with no history I would consider the car to be True Miles Unknown (TMU). You will notice that I spent considerable time describing this car. Most sellers will only tell you the high points. I want any potential customer to know everything there is to know about the car. Overall this is a very solid, very presentable early 911 that would bring great joy to any potential owner. It is not a Porsche parade or concourse quality car but is a car whose patina shows loving care by an owner who enjoyed using the car.
