Vehicle Detail
This Custom Hand built 1940 Ford Aluminum Convertible Body is the first of 2. Built by Kirkham Motorsport. The body was formed at the factory in Poland and then shipped to the facility in Provo Utah. Their team decided to reproduce the classically beautiful 1940 Ford convertible in aluminum, then stuff it full of the 2006 GT supercar's 5.4-liter V-8 and six-speed manual transmission. The first of many challenges presented itself right away: the size of the 550-horsepower GT powertrain meant the street rod had to be eight inches wider per side than a stock 1940 body. Using information supplied by Kirkham's Provo crew, the Polish craftsmen turned sculpting foam into their vision of an enhanced '40 body, then used that "buck" to form aluminum into fenders, doors and other major components. What they didn’t like was the way polished aluminum photographs, so they ended up completely re-making another one out of copper. Fiberglass molds were taken from the Aluminum body and copper sheets were formed to create the copper body. Front doors are hinged, trunk is hinged and front end is hinged off of the cowl. There is no floor and no dash. This is a full custom body, so the dimensions are all different than a stock 1940 Ford Convertible. This Body does not have a title.
