1961 Plymouth Fury Coupe 1 Owner 50 Years Product DescriptionThis auction is for a 1961 Plymouth Fury 2 door hardtop. This 1961 Plymouth Fury features a 318 cubic inch engine, and the famous pushbutton automatic transmission. I am the second owner of this car after its original owner passed away in 2012. I purchased this car as a package deal with another car from the original owner’s estate late last year. The original owner, Mr. Dirsa purchased this Plymouth on June 17, 1961 for $3369.89 for David Motors in Chicago, Illinois. He traded in a 1954 Studebaker 2 door hardtop. According to the original purchase agreement, the Fury was optioned with a V8 engine, an automatic transmission, power steering and a heater. Mr. Dirsa also requested the dealership install variable speed windshield wipers prior to him picking up the car in July of 1961. The car was driven regularly between 1961 and 1975, when it was parked to start restoration. The car was in a fender bender with a Rambler Station wagon in 1963 (have police report) and was repaired at that time. Mr. Dirsa accumulated 160,000 miles in this Plymouth before it was parked for restoration. The next 20 years Mr. Dirsa spent restoring his beloved Plymouth. As this car saw the harsh Chicago winters, it suffered some rust damage and he sourced replacement panels to address these issues during the restoration. The interior was replaced sometime in 1983 or 1984 and still looks fantastic. The engine was also rebuilt in the mid 1980s and has been driven 3-4,000 miles since then. A little over 70,000 miles are on the clock now. The original owner of this vehicle kept every single piece of paper work since the vehicle was new. I have a stack of paperwork all organized by the year, along with mileage record books. This is probably one of the most documented 1961 Plymouth Fury’s that are out there! The vehicle stickers that are on the car are from 2012, but I doubt the car has been driven in the last 10 years. It will need some work to get back on the road. The engine starts up and runs good. Transmission shifts well, but the front right brake is sticking so this car will need to be trailered. Also the car needs a new battery, and some exhaust work, although it’s a mean sounding car without a muffler! The car was restored by an amateur and it seems like there is some plastic or bondo on the rear fenders. Other than that the car looks to be solid for an Illinois car. Floors, trunk and frame rails look good. Paint and chrome looks great in pictures, but this is a driver quality car and could use a good buff and polish. Things that I can tell cosmetically that this car needs are a few emblems, the Plymouth is missing from the hood and one of the clear backup lights is cracked and needs replacement. Also there are 2 hubcaps missing. Also comes with 5 boxes of parts, spare carbs, misc trim pieces, wiring harness, windshield, just to name a few. Also comes with 2 sets of keys, factory service manuals, and loads of receipts and other paper work. Has a clean Illinois title. Please note this car will need to be trailered! It cannot be driven!
