Vehicle Detail

Hello and thank you for looking at my 1974 BMW tii. My wife and I are buying a house, so my toys sadly have to go. I purchased this great 1974 BMW 2002 tii 3 ½ years ago. This was my first experience with classic BMW’s and wow, I’ve been impressed. When I purchased it, I was looking for a nice classic car that I could use as a driver to work on occasion. This car did not disappoint! It has fit this role perfectly. It’s been a great car and I would not hesitate to drive it anywhere. Here’s some additional detail on the history of the car and the condition: HISTORY: This BMW 2002 tii, VIN# 2780318 was manufactured on November 28th, 1973 and delivered on December 7th, 1973 to the BMW importer Hoffman Motors Corp. in New York City. I purchased the car from a gentleman in Wisconsin, who purchased it from a gentleman in Michigan, who purchased it from his brother, the original owner. So, I am the 4th owner. The 2nd owner did an extensive restoration over a 3 year period (1988-1991) where the car was totally dismantled and restored to factory specs. A little over 10k miles have been put on it since the restoration (7,500 by the previous two owners and about 2,500 by me), and has only been driven on sunny days since. ENGINE: It has its’ original tii engine, which was professional rebuilt during the restoration period by Korman Autoworks. Too many new parts to list them all. It’s a “Stage One” rebuild and cost $6,000 at that time. ENGINE Blemishes: No known issues. EXTERIOR: During the restoration, the body was stripped down and sand blasted to bare metal inside and out, top to bottom. All rusted components were removed replaced with factory parts. The body was then finished with Dupont etching primer, 3M seam sealer, Sikkens OTO Bodycoat, finish primer and 8 hand sanded coats of Glasurit urethane paint in its original color of Malaga – paint code 021 (a very nice color!). New sound proofing materials, rubber seals, all trim pieces, clips, hardware, bumper rubber, etc. Maximum attention to detail. New authentic Minilite Mag Style wheels and 15/195/50 Yokohama S-drive tires were installed by the previous owner in 2008. The wheels are in perfect condition and the tires still have a ton of tread on them and look great. Exterior Blemishes: The driver door closes fine, but has a larger than normal gap between the door and the body. I don’t know if this is a simple adjustment or something more complicated. It was like this when I purchased the car and it never bothered me enough to get it looked at.There are two small dings on driver’s side (hard to even see). There is a small nic in the trim (please see pic)The paint has some oxidation, but I think a great detailer can get that out. It’s only visible when you’re up close. Overall, the paint still looks great. INTERIOR: During the restoration, the car received new carpet, door panels, console, seat covers and steering wheel. All of those components still look brand new. The interior still looks great. The previous owner replaced the front seats with Recaro style seats from a 320 vintage BMW. All seats recovered in new, period-correct tan vinyl by Dave Varco of Aardvarc Racing in Bonita, CA. They are very confortable! Interior Blemishes: Headliner is in overall excellent condition, but does have some stains on it around the sunroof area (please see pic). There are two cracks in the dash (please see pic). All gauges in the instrument cluster work properly, but the horn does not work.Clock works, but I don’t think it keeps the accurate time. The passenger window is really hard to get up/down, so I don’t use it (I keep it up). This seems like it would probably an easy fix (?), but I haven’t looked into it. DRIVING: It drives awesome. Great acceleration, tight steering and stops great. It’s very comfortable to drive and the front seats are awesome. Like I said, I would drive it anywhere without hesitation. It has an ANSA exhaust system, which sounds great. I also have the factory exhaust. EXTRAS: I have a ton of documentation/receipts from during the restoration, owners manual and workshop manual. Also, I have a Dustop car cover. All of this will of course be given to the new owner. I don’t have the original steering wheel, front seats or wheels. Todd On Jun-05-13 at 17:22:14 PDT, seller added the following information: Paint Update: I had the car professionally detailed yesterday (6/4/13) and I'm happy to report that the oxidation in the paint that I mentioned is nearly gone. There are a couple of minor spots (hardly noticeable) that I think the detailer just missed. The car honestly looks nicer/cleaner than the day I got it. Pictures don't do it justice (in my humble opinion) Thanks for your interest and happy bidding!
