This is a 500 hp Ferrari with front engine V12. The 550 is the last Ferrari with a V12, a manual transmission and a real throttle cable. The true and final successor to the Daytona, and Daytonas are now hundreds of thousands of dollars. By comparison, the less direct feeling 575 uses the more vague "drive by wire" throttle system. In the last six months 550 Barchettas have gone up $50,000-$100,000 and are now commanding prices higher than 575 SuperAmericas as the 550 is a better looking, better driving and a more reliable Ferrari. Compare for yourself the 550 to the 575 in one of the photos. The 550 has a much more distinctive and sporty appearance particularly the front end and also the side view. The 575 is less sharklike and more squared off. The 575 also lost the cockpit feel as the dash on the 575 no longer smoothly integrates into the doorpanels. These are the kinds of details that in the long run help make one Ferrari more desirable than another. They are both iconic cars. The 550 is just a bit better. Ferrari made only about 3,083 Maranellos over the entire production run. Compare this small number to the estimated 16,000 Ferrari 360s and you realize the 550 is indeed a very rare car by contemporary car standards. This is an ultra-rare and most desirable red/tan Ferrari 550 Maranello featuring Tan Daytona-style seats, Red Brembo brake calipers and Ferrari shields recessed in the fenders. If you look on Ebay or Cars.com you'll see this is the only Red/Tan 550 on the market now at the time this listing was posted. There are very few 550s for sale at all and when they are for sale they are typically silver, grigio, blue, black or yellow but "Ferrari Red" is extremely hard to find because owners rarely let them go. Making this car even more rare are its features. Ferrari charges approximately $5,000 for Daytona seats with contrasting piping, recessed fender shields and red colored Brembos. If you look around very few 550 Maranellos have these features. This is an exceptional condition Ferrari 550 Maranello. The car literally looks like it is 1-2 years old. If you see this car in person you will buy it. The paint and the interior looks spectacular. There is an uprated stereo but frankly, given the amazing sound of the engine, I've never turned it on. The Daytona seats have brand new leather ($4,000) while the tires have most of their tread. The belt service was just completed (April 2013). The V12 sounds amazing! Much nicer than the stock 458. Not too loud for daily use but you can really hear the V12 purr! This is the gentleman's touring car with muscle (torque, horsepower and presence). I am only aware of one real imperfection on the car and that is one scratch on the hood about an inch long. I will have this repaired if someone uses the Buy It Now. Otherwise the car is in truly exceptional show condition. This Ferrari has a clear CarFax and clean Autocheck history. Inspections welcome and invited as this is not a new car it is sold As Is.
