Vehicle Detail
This 1991 BMW 850i (E31) is very unique in that it is a rare 6 speed (only 874 6-speed E31s were imported to North America) with an Alpine white exterior (968 of 31,000 total E31s) on Silbergrau Mit Schwarz Nappa (Silver Grey & Black leather) interior color combination (615 of 31,000 total E31s). This color combination gives it both a classy and racy look. The car has a few upgrades including custom Antera wheels, high performance drilled brakes, shocks, springs, high performance radiator, performance chips (1 for each bank of 8 cylinders). The car is in great condition and only has 52K miles! It is often mistaken for a new BMW model, and people are blown away when I tell them it is a 91. The car drives like a dream, and the exhaust note is like music. A turn of its key and its 12 cylinders spring to life with a sound and smoothness that is very distinctive. Seriously, the sound of the starter engaging and the V-12 igniting gets people’s attention as it is unlike any other automotive sound most will ever hear. Overall, the E31 has a commanding presence that sets it apart from even today’s luxury and sport cars. It is tame enough for day-to-day city driving, but really comes to life on open roads where it cruises at 80 MPH with little effort or cabin noise. This BMW has been a great joy to own but circumstances have forced me to part with it, this is why the reserve and buy-it now prices are relatively very low for a BMW E31 in this condition (comparison shopping and research will validate this statement; there are E31s with over 100K miles listed for over $20K!). In fact, the reserve is set at the Kelly Blue Book value, but Kelly does not take into account the collector’s value that this rare BMW has and will have as time goes on. Many automotive publications, including Automobile Magazine, have lauded the 850’s collectability and have described it as a “collectible classic.” I hope to find someone who will take great care of and enjoy this iconic super car as much as I have.
