Up for a NO RESERVE AUCTION a truly rare 1969 Alfa Romeo Duetto. This is an unmolested, original, and rust free example of great Italian auto engineering. She drives and shifts like a dream . . . fun to drive . . . a real head turner. If you don’t like attention, you may want to stop reading now. According to the VIN, this is the fifth 1969 U.S.A. Duetto manufactured. Body Being an Arizona car, the body is absolutely straight, totally rust free. The car spent the first few years of its life in Southern California, and the last 40 years in Arizona under one ownership, always garaged, covered, and pampered. The paint on the car is approximately 20 years old, and was done with exceptional quality, as it is still shiny till this day. This is not a “10 footer” paint job! In the early 90s the passenger side front was knocked by another vehicle, causing very minor damage to the nose. It was professionally repaired by a highly skilled shop, leaving very little sign of the repair. There is absolutely no rust on this car. The rockers panels, cross members, as well as the floor panels are totally solid, all original. All four jack posts are solid. We have included several pictures taken of the undercarriage of the car to show how exceptional and rust free the body is. The cloth soft top is in really nice condition, not faded. The plastic rear window is nice and see-through. There are two very small “nicks” on the soft top where the latches rubbed on the cloth – but these are just very minor cosmetic blemishes. The inside of the soft top shows normal sign of wear for the age of the car. Tires are in excellent condition, show very little sign of wear. The Duetto is equipped with five original steel wheels with the correct original hubcaps, all in really nice condition. The tire tread depth is 10/32 – 11/32. Interior The interior of the car is very well maintained. The original vinyl floor mats were replaced at one point with custom red carpets to match the seats and door panels. Both the driver and passenger side seats are in great condition, no tears or discolorations. The dashboard top was at one point re-covered with an after-market vinyl dash cover. The doors align beautifully with the lines of the car, and close and open with ease, even when the car is lifted. Electrical All lights (tail lights, brake lights, and turn signals) work perfectly. All gauges (oil pressure, fuel gauge, water temp) as well as the speedometer and the tech are in working order. The heater blower stopped working a while back (not really an issue in Arizona). To period correct radio is not working, we did not have the time to diagnose the problem. Engine and Brakes The car comes with the original, matching 1750cc SPICA fuel injected motor. She starts up with no problems every time, and runs and sounds great. The engine and transmission were totally overhauled at 80K by GTA Motor Sports, in California. Auto International, who has been maintaining the car, just tested all four cylinders for compression . . . all readings were between 180 and 190 PSI. This Duetto is truly a pleasure to drive. The original five speed transmission shifts smooth in all gears, no grinding, or synchro problems. The clutch is really smooth, works very well, no rattles or noise of any kind. The brakes work 100% without any problems. All pads are virtually new, and we just installed a set of rebuilt brake boosters. Terms of Sale We have taken over 100 pictures of the car. Transportation is the responsibility of the buyer, although we can assist with the loading during regular business hours. A $500.00 deposit is due via PayPal within 24 hours of close of auction. The remaining balance is due via U.S. Bank Wire Transfer within 72 hours of close of auction.
