Vehicle Detail

You are Viewing a rare solid body bugwagon with a beautiful interior that runs and shifts great. This camper has been in our family for over 15 years here in southern California. If you've never camped in one of these campers you're in for a real treat. The top pops up and you fold out a wide padded upper bed that sleeps two. The top canvas sides and front panel unzip to give you ventilation and a great view from your six foot perch. The screen in the front panel also unzips to allow access to the roof luggage area. The rear seat pulls out to create a wide padded bed on the lower level. There is a hammock stowed under the rear seat for a child or a pet that attaches to clips in the front seat area. Also under the rear seat is a large storage area perfect for bed sheets, covers, pillows and other items. There is a sink with a faucet, drain and a fresh water storage tank. There are two storage areas in the sink unit with one in the back and one in the bottom. There is an ice box unit that has storage inside, a drawer for silverware etc. , a storage compartment in the top and a small fold out shelf on the side with a spice rack behind it. There is another storage area in the rear of the bus that I use to hang up shirts etc. There is a dining table that swivels to different positions and easily pulls out to allow more floor space. There is a bug screen that snaps over the rear hatch if you prefer to have it open. The canvas top is in really good shape with very few water marks. The carpet and floor mats are in great shape and the flooring under the carpets and mats are solid and rust free. See photos. The seats, bed cushions and padding have been restored or replaced with new material. The curtains are in great shape and when closed provide complete privacy. The interior wood panels have been redone and look fantastic. The cabinets are in good condition, however at some point someone added a few screws here and there that are visible in the photos. The tires are 8 ply truck type and are in good shape. There is a classic Matrix 8 track tape player that someone long before me installed in the dash. And yes it works. Also there used to be a CB radio attached to the dash so there are a couple holes. I added some trim pieces to several areas of the drivers compartment that I fabricated out of aluminum diamond plate. There is a detachable tow bar that attaches easily to the front of the camper. I would tow the VW to the river with my pick-up truck. That way I could leave my camper set up while I used my pick-up to prospect for gold in more remote areas. I've camped with the top up in the wind, rain and snow and it works great. OK What it needs.... The front door panels are in good shape but have some boo boos. They sell replacement panels, I just never got around to replacing them. I never figured out how the heater works. The exterior is solid with some small dints and a larger dent on the front behind the spare tire and one on the rear behind the bumper. I had planned on painting it and had just started doing a light sanding and realized my prior shoulder surgeries would have none of that. Soooo.... It needs a paint job. If you buy it and decide to paint it, I would suggest that you replace the rubber around the doors and windows. After all it is over 38 years old. I've taken good care of the bus over the years and used it as a camper not a show piece. I've spent countless days camping with my family along the Pacific Coast, Mojave Desert and the Kern River. I hope whoever buys it enjoys it as much as we have.
