Vehicle Detail
This is a very nice 1969 Lotus Europa S2. It currently runs and drives and is licensed. It has some unusual and interesting modifications. The body and paint are decent. There are no signs of major accidents or damage repair. Underneath the car looks very solid with no rust problems. There are lots of the typical cosmetic Lotus stress cracks in the fiberglass body and also lots of chips, scratches and touch ups but overall the car still looks quite nice. It has an unusual non opening tinted transparent sunroof that amazingly doesn't seem to leak and ads a unique bronze tinted lighting to the interior. The installation is a bit crude especially on the inside where the cutaway headliner edges are exposed. Both front and rear bumpers have been painted black. The original "wart" turn signals have been removed from the front of the car and the turn signals are now built into the front wing mirrors where they work quite well! This gives the front of the car an S1 appearance. There are no door handles. the doors open electrically from a hidden switch in the recess of the back window. From the inside a push button on the center console opens the doors. This also works amazingly well. There is an emergency release on the inside to open the door in case of an electrical malfunction. There is a very elaborate non original center console containing many buttons for lights, wipers, doors, hazards etc. Someone put a lot of effort into this and did a nice job, The wood parts of the console where lacquered which is now peeling off. The wood dash is also not original but very nice. The lights, wipers, horn, turn signals, power windows and gauges all work! The seats are very nice, carpets are decent. Door panels are nice with some modifications for the electric openers. The Windscreen has some de-laminating and a slight wiper scratch but no cracks or large chips. All the other glass is good. The locks for the front trunk (storage) and engine cover are also not stock. Both open with keys where the lock cylinder is removed. The keys are included and they close very securely. The Engine is in very good condition. Unfortunately I didn't get much history with the car but it appears to have been rebuilt. The engine and engine bay are both very clean with many detail modifications that show whoever built it was very talented. There is a custom aluminum heat shield between the intake and exhaust, Stainless flared tubes precisely guide each plug wire. It has two fuel tanks (not original for an S2) and you can see that someone very neatly adapted another left hand tank to fit the right side. The engine number does match the VIN plate and appears to be original to the car. It starts easy and runs very strong with no major leaks or problems. It has a Weber two barrel DGV carb. The clutch works excellent and the 4 speed gearbox shifts nicely through all gears. The gear lever is a bit finicky but fairly typical for a Europa. The cooling and charging systems work great. The tires are great (Kumho 155/80 R13) there is no spare. It has adjustable shocks on the back with adjustable spring perches to change the height. The steering and suspension are excellent and the car rides and drives very nicely. There is a good fire extinguisher included (always a good idea with a classic car). The Brakes are fairly new and work excellent. Overall this is a nice looking and excellent driving example of a great classic British car. The modifications won't appeal to everyone and most shouldn't be too hard to put back to stock. There is something neat about them though and the quality of craftsmanship that went into them is very good. It has a clear Title and is currently licensed in Washington state.
