Vehicle Detail

This HPE is the best example left in the US and possibly on the planet that is for sale. It has supportive documentation that it was the last one sold new in the United States. The original owner purchased it from a dealer in Portland Oregon in 1981. The car was originally white but was ordered in Rosso Corsa and the dealer had the car prepared accordingly and delivered to the original owner in March of 1981. (used 1981 Lancia paint code Rosso Corsa#851) The car was then driven from Seattle to Aspen Colorado that summer, without issue where it was exhibited at the 31st International Design Conference. (See Lanciano journal excerpts from the event in pics) Speaking at the conference was Sergio Pinafarina, While Aldo Contagno and Pietro Castagnero are credited with the Beta Coupe, Berlina and HPE designs it was common knowledge that Pinafarina was the man in charge and he is quoted as claiming the design. The original owner wrote an article for the November/December journal of “Lanciana” describing the adventure and the HPE sports a plate signed by Pinafarina from that trip. The car now has 91000 miles on it and has had 2 other owners that I know of. I got this car in 2000 and it was blown away by how perfect it was body and interior wise. Initially it was my daily driver while I worked on various mechanical issues all of which were addressed. All of the classic Lancia mechanical issues were addressed and there is not a single wearable suspension, brake or driveline component that has not been replaced. In 2002 the car took second place at the Seattle Concours-d-Elegance for Lancia. First went to a cherry restored Aurelia. I have always have garaged this car and after 2002 I only would drive it on nice days. Since then I have put 6k miles, approximately, on the car. This car has been a labor of love but I have sort of transitioned to off-roading and the car is only being driven enough to keep it from deteriorating by sitting in the garage too long. Features not obvious in the pictures. Engine is completely rebuilt and has < 5k miles on it. Professionally done. Head is from an 1800cc to improve compression. multi-angle valve job, otherwise stock No leaks and very strong with outstanding oil pressure. 34ADF Weber with stock intake. ZF power steering with less than 4k on the rack. Koni shocks all round All suspension bushings recent Brakes fully functioning including both handbrake arms on rear calipers. Recent brake master cylinder pads minimal wear all round Original spec exhaust Manual transmission (conversion done before my ownership) Updated gearbox linkage Carello spec headlights Everything on this car works including the AC (compressor 2 years old) All smog gear is removed but I can probably help source parts. Falken ZIEZ ZE912 195/60/R14 tires < 3000 miles Hatch struts professionally rebuilt by strutwise in BC Thermostat conversion to early/later type. Otherwise this car is bone stock. There are no silly modifications only sensible ones. My philosophy with this car was to keep the spirit of the original owner alive and not be a specification purist while at the same time making sure that the car stayed very useful and that everything worked. This car has just not seen that much use and the condition reflects same. There are a ton of pictures to follow, please wait for them to load.
