Vehicle Detail
Chassis # 451488, Engine #741281, Trans #160389 4sp. Color 6402 Ruby Red. Built early September 1965! This car is a re list. I had a LOT of interest from overseas on this car. As stated on the original listing, it is local pick up only. For me, it is too involved to send this by sea. I am going to hold out for a domestic buyer who has learned what overseas Porsche enthusiasts already know; simply stated, it's a rare Porsche. This is an early car, the first version, none earlier. It has needs in terms of completion but all parts are available on subsequent year parts cars made in much greater numbers. This car is a strong platform for restoration. It is numbers matching, a rare color, as it sits it does not raise more questions than answers. If you follow 911 Porsches, the significance of early production cars and their features has really taken center stage in any forum. As far as 912s, any concours lawn or Sunday morning cars and coffee is going to favor the painted dash cars. This is not a 912 thing or a 911 thing and it's attendant inferiority/superiority baggage. This car is a rare Porsche that has just as much purpose filling out a collection as being a rock solid single porsche to own. The engine was split and inspected and found to be good. I can tell you that it spins smoothly. The bores look good in my opinion. One piston was partially installed when I came to terms to purchase and all work was stopped. I would assume the engine will be torn down by the next owner. The remaining pistons, push rods, etc are present..The transmission is a 902 four speed. The brakes are on the car and need to be overhauled. There is a distributor, fuel pump, clutch and pedal assembly. I believe there is only one wheel with the proper date code. Please study the photos of the body. There are some gaps between removed rust and replaced metal primarily around the jack spurs on the driver's side. It might have been caused by less than perfect welding heat. The front pan has been replaced. It looks very good but a battery bracket needs to be sourced. The floors and longitudals appear to be original. The fenders are for two hole horn grills. The original four hole grills are included and fitting them to these fenders is done regularly by different methods. Please note that there are paint blisters on the drivers door and roof as well as some slight rust bubbling around door latch areas. Once these areas are addressed it will be up to the owner to repaint these areas or the entire car. That being said, this car is very straight and the paint is very good. The doors and fenders are hung loosely and in no way represent final panel fit. The pictures show loose parts. Not shown is the chrome/brass window frame for the passenger side. Besides the frame and some minor "orphans" like one SWB parking light assembly, exterior door handle and one open window winder, if it is not shown it does not go with the car. There are some boxes of stuff but there are no rear bumpers, seats, quarter windows or other obvious missing parts. I have included as many pictures as allowed. Please contact me for any info or extra pictures. My phone # is 203 675 1343. The car can be viewed in Madison, Ct. before auction's end. This car is local pick up only;just way too much stuff to box and ship. This car comes with a notarized bill of sale only. This 912 has the features of the first produced and is very rare. On Mar-23-13 at 17:26:04 PDT, seller added the following information: While reviewing the listing, I noticed the picture of the door cards showed a notch in the passenger side at the top. This probably happened during original assembly and is NOT visible under the top trim piece. Please note that these are the first style door cards with the clips on the bottom and not screws and they are in good condition. On this subject, this car needs solid bumper guards, one "open" window winder and I don't think anything else that aren't found on any SWB car in subsequent years. Please also note that the door latch assemblies are the rounded type which are unique to early production 901 cars. In response to some inquiries and comments, I do understand that this is a very early type car with non adjustable shocks, inner fender mounted washer bottle, etc. and there are no pictures. These features do exist but I used my 24 picture allowance to show other stuff that pertains to this car.
