Vehicle Detail

PLEASE NOTE: I'VE BEEN ASKED A LOT OF QUESTIONS ABOUT REGISTERING THE CAR. YOU SHOULD CHECK WITH YOUR LOCAL DMV OR VEHICLE REGISTRATION AUTHORITY. I WILL SELL THE CAR FOR THE LISTED PRICE WITH THE CURRENT FLORIDA REBUILDABLE SALVAGE TITLE, AND YOU TAKE CARE OF GETTING A REBUILT TITLE IN YOUR STATE. I WILL PROVIDE ALL THE RECEIPTS FOR THE RESTORATION. IN THIS CASE, THE CAR WILL BE AVAILABLE FOR PICKUP IN BRUNSWICK, GEORGIA. OR I WILL SELL THE CAR FOR $1,200 MORE THAN THE LISTING PRICE WITH AN OKLAHOMA REBUILT TITLE. THE ADDITIONAL EXPENSE IS BECAUSE I MUST SHIP THE CAR TO OKLAHOMA AND PAY OKLAHOMA EXCISE TAX TO REGISTER THE CAR. IN THIS CASE THE CAR WILL BE AVAILABLE FOR PICKUP IN FORT GIBSON OKLAHOMA. THE REASON FOR AN OKLAHOMA REBUILT TITLE IS BECAUSE I WAS A CAR DEALER IN OKLAHOMA, AND WITH DIFFERENT RULES IN GEORGIA, I CAN'T GET THE REBUILT TITLE HERE. THE CAR IS COMPLETELY ROADWORTHY AND THE SRS SYSTEM FUNCTIONS PERFECTLY, WHICH IS A REQUIREMENT OF MANY STATE INSPECTIONS OF REBUILT VEHICLES. This car was hit in the front right when it had less than 19,000 miles on it. The insurance company declared it totaled. It was bought at auction by someone who tried to restore it and could never get it to run. I bought it and completed the restoration. At that time I was a used car dealer and I regularly bought and restored damaged cars. The problem with this car not running was that the Engine Control Module was damaged and a lot of the wiring to/from the module was chopped in the accident. The previous owner had poorly spliced a lot of the wiring and installed an incorrect ECM. I ordered the correct ECM from Lexus, traced and correctly spliced every damaged wire (mechanically twisted together, soldered, sealed with heat-shrink tubing). I had the Lexus dealer program the new ECM to correctly recognize the theft deterrent control module, the key transponder, etc. The car now runs and drives like a dream. Since it had been sitting for quite a while, once I had it running correctly I replaced the spark plugs and fuel injectors, had the cooling system flushed and refilled with factory coolant, and had the oil and filter changed - this was all done within the past couple of months, and the car has been driven less than 200 miles since. Also replaced new in the restoration were the radiator, cooling fans and shroud, A/C condenser, both motor mounts (they were cracked), the right front wheel spindle, brake caliper and control arms, all four wheels and tires. The tires have less than 30 miles on them. The miles on the car are accurate, even though the title says the mileage cannot be verified. This is because the car was not running when it was examined by the insurance appraiser after the accident, and he therefore could not verify the mileage. I have included a copy of the relevant pages of the CarFax report, and you can see the miles on the car just prior to the accident - it has been in restoration since then. Mechanically I would rate this car as a 9.5. From my driving experience I would give it a 10, but since I haven't driven it for a long time or a great distance, I hesitate to say that there isn't some minor flaw I haven't noticed. But I can say that it starts, runs, drives, handles, steers, brakes and rides as only a Lexus can - no noticeable problems whatsoever. I own a 2007 Jaguar XK convertible (which will also be for sale soon), and I can honestly say that this car is quicker, quieter, softer riding, and smoother shifting than the Jaguar. Cosmetically I would rate this car as an 8.5. The body work was done before I bought the car, and there are some minor problems: there is a spot on the hood where the paint has a small fisheye and a couple of small inclusions like grains of dust. Overall the paint is smooth and glossy with a few very minor flaws typical of a car this age, but it has sat outdoors for the past two years while I worked on it intermittently, and it has a few watermarks, light scratches and slightly dull places that should be improved by a good buffing out. The interior is also almost perfect, but there are some stains on the carpet. I installed new factory carpet floor mats, so unless you pull those up, you won't see the stains - and even then, they aren't terrible - a good cleaning might remove them, but I haven't tried. When I got the car the rear quarter windows weren't working (they are now), rain blew in and did a little damage to the rear seat. It is not damaged badly, but the leather is hardened and has some cracks in it where it got wet. You can see from the photos that it's not really noticeable. The car has a few quirks, but nothing serious - the passenger window will reverse when it reaches the top if you use the "auto up" feature - you can avoid this by not pushing the switch all the way to "auto up" and you might have to jog it a little at the top to get it all the way up. This can be fixed by removing the door panel and adjusting the up position limit switch. The key fob remote will not lock or unlock the car. I can't think of any others. These should both be easily fixed, but I've worked hard to get the car 99.9%, and frankly, I'm tired of working on it. I have been as complete and honest as possible in describing the car. All that said, please be advised that the car is sold AS-IS, WHERE-IS. If you have questions, ask them before bidding. I will make the car available to you or your professional for inspection at a mutually convenient time. If you want to test drive the car, come and do it before bidding. If you want to place a non-refundable deposit based upon the car satisfactorily passing an inspection, I will take it to your choice of facility for an inspection at your expense. We don't have a Lexus dealer in town, but we have a Toyota dealer, as well as the usual Sears, chain auto repair and tire stores, etc. I have personally dealt with the local Honda dealer quite a bit and found them fair and trustworthy, and if I were to choose, that's who I'd want to inspect a car for me. Cars are the most notorious item on ebay for people to bid and win, and then say, "Well, I can come look at it in two weeks, and then I'll let you know if I want it for sure." NO. Hate to sound cranky, but Been There, Done That. The winning bidder is the proud new owner, not the one who has an opportunity to decide later. A winning bid is a binding contract to complete the purchase. The car is advertised locally, and this auction may be ended at any time if a sale occurs outside ebay. If you are the winning bidder, you must make a $500 deposit via PayPal within 24 hours of auction closing. The deposit is my assurance that you will complete the purchase as agreed, and is therefore non-refundable unless I have materially misrepresented the car. Unfortunately, due to the prevalence of cashier's check scams, payment of the balance can only be made in one of two ways: by cash at the time of pickup of the car; or by direct transfer from your bank to mine. In the latter case, I will deliver the title to my bank, and they will arrange the exchange of funds and title with your bank. On Mar-18-13 at 15:05:04 PDT, seller added the following information: PLEASE NOTE: THE MILEAGE IN THE LISTING IS A TYPO. INSTEAD OF 16,600, IT SHOULD READ 19,600. MY APOLOGIES.
