Vehicle Detail

This is a fabulous 1968 Lotus Elan S/E. This classic British convertible is in running and driving condition and looks fantastic. The Body and paint are in great condition. The car looks to have been originally a redish orange color and was repainted in classic British racing green some time ago. The paint still looks great although there are many small chips, touch ups and small scratches. It does have some of the typical Lotus stress cracks in a few spots. But generally the car presents extremely well. The convertible top is in decent condition with no rips or repairs. It also has a full length tonneau cover in good shape plus the short tonneau that just covers the top bows when down. It's decent but missing the trim on its back edge. The glass on the car is all in good condition. Underneath the car looks solid with no major rust problems. and only minor surface rust spots. The Twincam Weber head engine starts easy and runs strong with around 40 PSI oil pressure. The Weber 40mm DCOE carbs are in good tune and have working chokes. This is a vintage British sports car so you can't expect it to be leak free but there are no major leaks. The cooling system works well. The clutch and gearbox work great with no problems at all. The four wheel disc brakes are excellent. The handbrake does not work very well. The 12V positive earth electrics are mostly working. The charging system works, The power windows both work although they are very slow. The lights and turn signals work. The heater blower and air horn do not work. The Interior is probably this cars weakest point, The seats don't look terrible but aren't great and could use being refurbished. The passenger side seat is not bolted down and the seat frame is rusty around the bottom. The carpets are fair as are the door panels. The dashboard top pad has a small crack on the far left but overall not too bad. The wood dash looks o.k. but has some major cracks and splits mostly covered by various classic car event plaques. The tach works but the Speedometer does not. The stock temp gauge does not work and someone has installed an after market temp gauge under the dash that does work. The fuel and oil pressure gauges work. The wipers work (will need new blades). The steering wheel looks and works o.k. but is awfully wiggly and feels like it is broken under neath its cover. The tyres are usable. They have sidewall cracking and should probably be replaced. There is no spare with the car. The right rear wheel bearing is just starting to sound a bit noisy and will need to be replaced soon. This would be a great candidate for a full restoration or make a fun driver just as is. This Elan was recently legally imported from Canada. It has not yet been licensed in the USA but comes with all the necessary paperwork to get it titled and licensed. Buyer is responsible for shipping costs and arrangements. I am willing to help as needed. I highly recommend and encourage a personal inspection if possible. The Lotus can be viewed by appointment in Granite Falls WA (near Seattle) I reserve the right to end the auction at any time. Car must be picked up within 30 days. Feel free to ask any questions.
