Vehicle Detail
1991 Saab 900S- 72k original miles! If you have always loved the classic Saab 900 and been saddened by the later GM-era Saab’s, here is your car! This particular example is the “holy grail” classic Saab 900; 100% original and correct, with very low miles, in almost perfect condition. I sell mostly collector grade Porsche’s but have been a longtime Saab owner and fanatic. I just love the engineering, quality and unique approach taken on these cars; there truly is no other car like them! I had almost given up hope on owning a primo Classic 900 because most of them are rusted out, aesthetic nightmares… Many of them still run because they are so well built, but since parts are scarce and overall values are relatively low, you could never afford to bring one back to its original glory. When I saw this car my jaw absolutely dropped, it was as if I had been transported back to the mid-90’s, this car literally looked 3 years old, not 22! Here is this car’s story: It was sold new at B&B Saab in Santa Clara, CA on 9/14/1991 to a longtime Saab enthusiast who trade in her 1986 Saab 900 for it. She loved the car until she upgraded again (some might say downgraded!) to a 1997 Saab 900 and traded in in at Carter Saab in Seattle, WA. Mileage at that time was 57,805. It was exclusively serviced by the Saab dealer and every maintenance stamp is showing in the service book from new until 57k miles! It was then sold to another Saab enthusiast who purchased the car for his use at his summer home. Since the car was strictly used during the summer months he only accumulated just under 15,000 additional miles over the next 16 years. When not being used it was garaged and covered awaiting his return. I was fortunate enough to stumble across this car and simply had to have it! Body and Paint- You will simply be floored with the luster and the condition of the paint on this car. Inspecting the car closely I was convinced that it had 100% original paint! All the VIN tags are present (see photos) on every panel and every panel of glass is date stamped Saab 1991, including the windshield! Since I sell high dollar European cars I always carry a paint meter, so I decided to see if my hunch was correct. Almost… The car is wearing 95% original paint. Literally the only spot on the entire car that I could tell had been touched up in the cars life is just ahead of the gas filler door on the lower right quarter panel. There is an area about 6 inches around that shows on the paint meter to have slightly thicker paint. The repair is indistinguishable to the eye. On inspecting the quarter panel more closely on the inside you can see a few tiny dimples on the inside of the quarter panel. It obvious it got a small ding and the original owner had it repaired, that was in the days before paintless dent repair would have fixed that! Where else will you find an original 900 with almost all original paint that still looks gorgeous! The body is almost perfect, the only exceptions being the top of the driver’s door has a scratch and slight wow where someone opened the door while the hood was popped. There are few very minor door dings that could be easily rectified with Paintless Ding Repair (PDR) and a very minor paint nicks, rock chips, etc. Overall this literally has to be a top 1% example in terms of exterior quality. The history on the car is of course perfect and clean, email me and I am happy to send you a copy of the Autocheck history on the car. Glass and Trim- The car is wearing 100% original, date stamped OE Saab glass. I love the factory bronze tint that Saab used, awesome! All the original trim is in place and is soft and supple. The only trim related flaw is the front bumper trim on the driver’s side is half missing (see photos). Interior- This is always the weak point on these 900’s. For whatever reason the interiors just don’t hold up well. This car is simply amazing! The leather seats are almost without flaw, the driver’s seat showing a touch more wear than the others but it truly is the best leather I have seen in one of these in years! The headliner was redone about 5 years ago and is perfect, no sagging headliner here! All the various trim pieces, switches, etc are all in place and looking good. The dash is very nice but it does have two hairline cracks, one about ¾ inch in length from the driver’s side defrost went to the windshield and one about ¾ inch from the driver’s side speaker grille. It’s the most sanitary dash I have seen for a long time. Electrical- EVERYTHING on this car works properly. Both power windows, power mirrors and power sunroof all operate at the correct speed. The power locks work on both doors and rear hatch. All the interior and dash lights work, even the irritating “up shift” light is still working. All the HVAC functions work correctly and the AC blows cold. The heated seats heat up quickly, the cruise control works as designed and even the factory power antenna goes up and down! I don’t know what to tell you but it is remarkable! Mechanical- The car starts right up, idles smoothly, makes appropriate power and pulls to redline with ease. Clutch take-up and engagement is smooth and it shifts well. The brakes engage at the top of the pedal, it stops straight and true with no vibrations. It steers well, makes no noises from the steering rack, bearings or CV’s and tracks well going down the road. It leaks no oil (it had a few slight leaks when I got it, see below) or any other types of fluids. The engine compartment is clean and easy to access. The tires have better than 80% tread with good, consistent wear. When I bought the car I set about making sure everything was just so. So here is what I have done: · Oil and Filter change · New Oxygen Sensor · Fixed a couple minor oil leaks · New Cruise control switch, wasn’t working when I bought it and it drove me insane. · Fixed every single light bulb that was out in the car, EVERY bulb in this car works right down to the glove box light. · New Wiper blades I couldn’t find anything else to do mechanically. If I were to keep the car about the only things on my list was the have a few dings taken out via PDR and track down a few of the missing tools from the tool box. That’s it! A Note about Rust- Saab cars sold really well in the Snow Belt states; maybe it was due to its Scandinavian heritage. As a result many of these cars have serious issues with rust. This car has only been in Sunny Southern California or mild Climate Seattle and has been almost exclusively a summer only car for the last 16 years. As a result there is no rust of any kind on this car. All the fasteners and fittings under the car are clean and fresh, even the paint in the wheel wells gleams like new. I love it! Trunk and Accessories: The trunk carpet is like new; the package shelf is present and even still has the shelf holder, most that I see that part is broken off! The jack and spare have never been used; it even still has the OEM plastic bag for storing the flat tire. The toolkit is present; however someone didn’t return a few of the tools, irritating! The wheels are absolutely perfect not a scratch on any of them! All the original stickers are present and accounted for; it even had some old Saab service stickers in the door jams! I thought about removing them but I thought they were cool. I have all the original books and manuals in the correct fabric case. Overall, while not perfect it has to be a top 1% example of an original surviving Saab 900. With just 74k miles it has years of driving enjoyment left. Where else can you experience true Saab quality like this? You just simply can’t duplicate this car! Feel free to contact us via E-Bay with any questions.
