Vehicle Detail
Im selling my sons 1978 Corvette. Its an awsome car. Runs like a dream. The engine was completely rebuilt 3000 miles ago, and runs like a top. Purrrrs like a kitten. He bought it from a guy who went through most of the car and repainted it and rebuilt the engine and put an edlebrock intake and carb on it, as well as new plugs, wires, cap, rotor, all the usual things, and after the rebuild it was dyno tuned reading 230hp. Looks like the carpet is fairly new as well as the seat covers. I have done some work on it myself. I replaced the clock $135 (drove me nuts to look at it not working) I replaced the heater control assembly ($60), although it still doesnt seem to work quite right. Seems to be a vacum problem. I just replaced the alternator ($50). I installed a new stereo and built a custom fit box for the 10 inch sub and 1000W kenwood amplifier that you can see in the pics ($600). Its easy to remove if you wish. Rear tires are brand new with less than 1000 miles on them ($200), and the front tires look new but they were on it when he bought it. I also started to replace the wheel bearings until I found that the entire trailing arm needed to be disassembled to do it correctly so after researching and finding that this is a dreaded and common problem for these corvettes I just removed both rear trailing arms and sent them out and had the arms completely rebuilt, to the tune of over $500 (see the pic of the rebuilt arms before i reinstalled them. I also replaced the power antenna ($50), as well as both rear strut rods with upgraded adjustable rods ($130). The previous owner replaced the rear spring with a TRW composit rear leaf spring. I also replaced the rear shocks with Bilstein heavy duty shocks ($110). I replaced the front ball joints as well as the pitman arm ($400). My son is in the Air force and is stationed in south carolina and he recently drove the car from michigan to south carolina without so much as a hiccup. One problem he did have after he bought the car was that it had a slow battery drain. If i went a few days without starting the car the battery would go dead, so I put a new battery in it ($75) but that didnt fix it, so rather then hunt the drain down I installed a small switch that blends right in so you dont realy see it, so after Im done driving the car for the day I just flip the switch and it cuts off the battery. I have constant power running to the clock and radio so they dont lose their memory. Its not as bad as it sounds, just flip the switch when you get in and flip it off at night, and if you leave it on over night it still starts fine, but if you left it for a few days it might be dead or you could trace the drain and fix it. Also some jackass in a parking lot bumped the point of the front bumper and chipped some paint off, you can see in the pic. I had thought about getting a leather cover for the front (bra), or just take it to a body shop and have it fixed. I dont have the paint code for it. And my son says that the speedometer stopped working, which I thought might happen. It didnt work when he bought it so before he took it to his new base in South Carolina I checked it out and found that the drive gear (a small plastic gear in the nose of the transmission) was missing the clip that holds it in place. I didnt have time to order a new gear before he left for SC, so I got a new clip and filed the teeth on the plastic gear and it was working but I suspected it might need a new one eventualy. Its a $12 part and takes about 30 min to change. I would replace it if It were here but he has it at his base and doesnt have the tools there to do it, and cant get leave to come home until april. Its realy a very easy fix. This is a super fun car to drive. It has T-Tops that easily come out. Theres nothing like taking the tops off and just driving around town. Everyone looks and has that look of envy on their faces. Its just a pure blast to drive. Super fast and very responsive. Just fun fun fun! He realy doesnt want to sell it, but being stationed in SC its not very practical to drive back and forth to Michigan when he comes home on leave, and he is expecting to be deployed 6 months at a time, and these cars dont do well in sand. Thanks for looking. Feel free to ask any questions. My cell is 269-986-6018. Feel free to TEXT any questions you have. Please no calls, the phone ringing off the hood would drive me nuts. I check my email every day also if that works better. I have the car listed localy so I reserve the right to end the sale at any time. Thanks for looking
