The dealer had bought it from the original owner. I have done all the maintenance myself – set up the carbs and dyno-tuned, changed sprockets (20-40 – great combo, very smooth), chain, valve adjustment at 18,000 miles (if I were keeping it, I’d check them again – no reason to believe any are out, though). The only trouble I ever had with it was intermittent electrical shutdown – I replaced the pickup coil, ignition coils, plug wires, ran additional heavy-duty grounds, etc. Turned out it was the ECU (“Ignitor” in Triumph speak) – so changed that too, and problem disappeared completely (and that was 6 years and 15,000 miles ago). My wife is not interested in riding with me so I don’t need the size and power of the Trophy. I just bought a 2012 Tiger 800 – so it’s time to clear the garage of the Trophy and all its supporting pieces. Runs great – yea, I know everyone says that. Two years ago, I rode from Houston to West Virginia and back – about 3,400 miles in a week. Never hiccupped. Cruises at whatever speed you feel like admitting to – I’ve had it steady at about 105 (GPS verified), and it was like “yea, whatever.” I had it up to 136 once, and was running out of road (and courage) so backed it down – there was still more to go. Of course, all speeds were on closed courses and never on public roadways. If I needed to ride to anywhere, I would not hesitate to take this bike. I did fall down on it once – very slow, wet road, outside a gas station. I refinished the left side bodywork myself (exact match OEM 2-part epoxy paint and clearcoat, etc). None of the bodywork broke, it just got scuffed. Unless you are VERY sharp-eyed, you cannot tell from more than 5 feet away, and I challenge anyone to tell from 10 feet. I live in northeast Houston Texas. I may let you take a short test drive, if I have your license (with MC endorsement) in my hand and if you convince me you are experienced and responsible. But you break it, you bought it. Alternatively, I'll drive and you can ride on the back. But no pictures. The bike has a “blue book” of about $3,000. I have upgrades and improvements (listed above) of over $2,400 – yea, no one pays for those. But the WP uber-shock and Race-Tech fork setup and Storz Bar Adaptor are highlights. All that stuff – which you will not have to add – is worth something, eh? Hey, you want a great, reliable, good-looking, sport-tourer? This is it. THANKS. Better yet, just send me your phone number in a "contact seller" message. It will be faster. Sorry for the burden, but I am sure you will understand my caution. I do promise to check for a BUY IT NOW and honor that, though. Hey, it's the best I can do. Thanks.
