1982 PORSHE 911 TARGA For sale by owner -Rare Special Order "Lightweight" 911 SC All Original! -Includes Books, Records, original two keys and Manuals-Porsche Club of America (PCA) member owned While describing this 911 SC as the "Best of Both Worlds" (between an early 70's 911 and a later 911) is just a start, it does set the stage for what the car is all about. There is little argument that the 911SC was a good car (especially compared to the somewhat problematic 1974-1977 911's) due to its bullet proof air-cooled 3.0 liter engine, 5-speed "915" transmission and other mechanical improvements. To the untrained eye, this '82 Porsche 911 SC has the appearance of a "normal" 911SC. However, the differences between this model and others are significant by added Factory original Whaletail and 17 Inch Fuch Wheels with new tires, Carrera Decals, Carrera emblem makes it look identical to '85 and up later model ;964 Carrera This particular car was ordered through and delivered by Beverly Hills Porsche in the desirable color combination of Metallic Wine Red & Black Full black Leather. ? Attractive 3-spoke leather steering wheel ? Bilstein sport dampers (shock absorbers) ? Engine lid and front compartment ? Black anodized window trim ? We can attest to the fact that the difference, This SC is tight, very quick, and responsive and drives like a Real Porsche should. This 911SC has been a car that during its 33 years has been owned by a series of PCA members and passed from member to member through the network of Porsche enthusiasts. Each owner has chosen the cars new "caregiver" not with the primary interest of benefiting financially from its sale but to locate an owner that will preserve the car but appreciate it for what it is; an exceptional survivor. It is the owners sincere hope that the Porsche's future owner will continue to provide the same level of care that the car has received during the past 31 years. Cosmetically, the car is absolutely brilliant with exceptionally high gloss paint and overall cosmetics. It is difficult to find fault with the Porsche's overall condition. Of course, the car has been driven and, as with virtually any car, a few extremely minor imperfections can be located. A thorough inspection of the Porsche reveals only the most minor flaws that require close critical inspection to be identified. The car shows in person as it does in the photographs and is certainly one of the nicest "SC's" available. CONDITION HIGHLIGHTS - EXTERIOR & TRUNK ? It has a distinctive design, rear-engined and with independent rear suspension, an evolution of the swing axle on the Porsche 356. The engine was also air-cooled until the introduction of the Type 996 in 1998. Since its introduction on September 11, 1963, it has undergone continuous development, though the basic concept has remained little changed. Throughout its lifetime, the 911 has been modified by private teams and by the factory itself for racing, rallying and other forms of automotive competition. It is among the most successful competition cars ever. In the mid 1970s, normally aspirated 911 Carrera RSRs won major world championship sports car races such as Targa Florio, Daytona, Sebring and Nürburgring, even against more powerful prototypes. In fact, the 911-derived 935 turbo also won the coveted 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1979. In the 1999 international poll for the award of Car of the Century, the 911 came fifth. It is one of two in the top five that had remained continuously in production (the original Beetle remained in production until 2003), and was until 1998 the most successful surviving application of the air- (now water-) cooled opposed rear-engine layout pioneered by its original ancestor, the Volkswagen Beetle. Porsche is one of the oldest sports coupe nameplates still in production. 911SC (1978-1983) In 1978, Porsche introduced the new version of the 911, called the 911SC ("Super Carrera"). It featured a 3.0 liter engine with Bosch K-Jetronic fuel injection and a 5-speed 915 transmission. Porsche broke away from using magnesium crankcases like in the late 2.0, 2.2, 2.4, and 2.7 liter engines. This was the start of what are considered by collectors to be one of the most reliable "bulletproof" 911s. It was during this time, that Porsche AG decided the long-term fate of the 911. In 1979 Porsche had made plans to replace the 911 with their new 928. Sales of the 911 remained so strong however, that Porsche revised its strategy and decided to inject new life into the 911 editions. Total 911 SC sales equaled 58,914 cars. DRIVING THE 1982 PORSCHE 911SC At the risk of exaggerating, one of the best classic 911's that I've had the pleasure to drive. It is last year production of this line up with fixed glitches from previous year 911's.The car is very responsive, has just the right exhaust note handles through winding road like no other. absolutely fanatically well maintained by Porsche enthusiast. When it comes to drivability, this particular Porsche is absolutely superb, and it drives as if it is only a few years old! The car is great fun to drive and exhibits absolutely no problems. The car starts immediately when cold and hot and runs cool, even in warm West coast temperatures. The engine and transmission is very strong had fresh rebuild. The Porsche idles smoothly and does not hesitate,Fire up right up as new vehicles. Not to mention its great look. The transmission is excellent and all of the syncromesh gears function perfectly. There is no noise in the driveline and the clutch engages properly, and without slippage, chattering or fuss. The brakes function properly stopping the Porsche straight and sure. The car passed the most recent safety inspection, with no findings/needs. The emergency brake is functional and correctly adjusted. The engine and engine bay are very clean, and free from excessive oil, dirt and grease. It is important to note that even when this car sits for several weeks / months Smog test (Aircare) passed recently a month ago as documented passed with flying colours.
