This is a very nice and very original 1977 series 1 Lotus Esprit. It runs and drives great and is currently licensed and drivable. The body, paint and chassis are in great condition with no signs of major rust or accident repair or damage. Underneath the car looks very straight and clean. The paint is original and does have some checking in spots and lots of the typical Lotus stress cracks in the usual spots for Esprits. If your familiar with Lotus cars (or many other fiberglass bodied cars) you'll know what I mean. These are not structural, just cosmetic. For being original paint this car overall presents extremely well. There are some scratches on the roof from a previous owner that stored a canoe on top of the car. This is a federal version and came with the big ugly bumpers. The front bumper was in very rough condition and has been replaced with the much nicer European version. The rear is still stock. The silver plastic trim that runs along the windscreen and roof is a bit rough and the body black rubber trim on the passenger door is also a bit rough (both trims are readily available and easily replaced). The Interior is also very original and in nice condition. The seats are excellent except a small tear on the drivers side below the head rest. The Dash and console are a bit faded but still look really good. Door panels, headliner and carpets are all very nice. There is a ugly vintage radio installed that does work but doesn't pick up many stations. All the instruments work but the speedometer and temp gauge are a bit jumpy. The power windows both work but are quite slow. The heat and defrost does work but these are never great on early Esprits. The windscreen and all other glass is in great condition. The mechanicals are in very good condition. The mileage shown (37k) appears to be original. The Engine starts easy, runs strong and does not smoke. It has an electronic ignition upgrade. The water pump was recently rebuilt and the timing belt and tensioner bearing recently replaced. The cooling system works good and the car does not overheat. The gearbox shifts nicely through all gears without any problems. The clutch and brakes work perfect. The steering is nice and tight. The suspension is sporty but comfortable. The engine mounts feel a bit soft and should probably be replaced (this is a common esprit problem) but the car is very drivable as-is. The electrics work great and it has a fairly new Optima Battery. The emissions equipment has been removed but is included. The pop-up headlamps go up and down perfect. The engine/luggage compartment is clean with nice carpets. The front trunk area is also nice with a good spare tire (on alloy rim) and tools. The original wolfs race wheels are in nice condition and all the tires are excellent (195/60 front 205/70 rear). Overall this car looks and drives great and is in un-restored and very original condition. It comes with a clear title and is currently licensed.
