Vehicle Detail
After a lifetime of collecting AMC cars I am letting go of my dream car. It is a 1969 AMX with the rare Big Bad Orange paint scheme of which less than 300 cars came from the factory with this paint. Further, this car is equipped with the top of the line 390 engine and a 4 speed transmission. It has power assisted front disc brakes and power steering. I am, to my knowledge, the 3rd owner of this car and the car spent most if no all of it life in Southern California. It was driven until the mid-eighties when it was parked. I bought the car in 2008 and shortly thereafter moved to Colorado where the car is now. Car is not running and will need to be transported away from my garage. Car has a clean California title that is in the "Non-operational" status, which basically means it is in their records but you don't have to pay a yearly registration fee. Upon transfer of ownership I will be sending in my "Release of Liability" to the State of California and it is up to the new owner to title and register the car where they live. The car is in very good condition for its age. The salt in the air on the west coast causes these cars to rust from the top down instead of back east where they rust from the bottom up. The area between the rear window and the trunk lid is the worst and I have a donor piece for this area. The front corners of the hood need to be patched and there are a few small pea sized holes here and there that need to be patched. The left rear wheel well lip has a small dent in it, but I don't think it is bad enough to warrant a quarter panel replacement. Several other dents and dings here and there but over all the car is in really good shape. The only known missing parts are the two headlight bezels. You can be certain that the purchaser of this car will be the first person to disassemble this car. The research I have done shows that the build date of the body, the assembly date of the of the car and the build date of the engine all match to within normal accepted variances. Plus you can look at the car and tell no one has ever had the car apart before, not the engine or trans out of the car nor has the interior ever been out. You can rest assured that this car is one of the few time capsules that you can find today. I never took the car apart because I didn't want to do anything hasty and lose parts and the such, turns out I really can't handle a project of this magnitude. This car really deserves and concurs restoration and I just can't do that. The pictures should pretty much say it all but if you have any specific questions I will do my best to answer them. Thanks for looking. On Jan-21-13 at 09:00:47 PST, seller added the following information: Several people have asked about the VIN and door tag numbers, they are as follows. The VIN is A9M397X237298. The last 6 numbers represent the sequential build number and according to the limited AMC records indicates a late February 1969 build date. The door tag is:R026801 - This is the body number and dates to mid February 19696939-7 - This is body type number and is an AMX931L - This is the interior code and represents the Charcoal color and the "L" indicates leather. 3A - This is the color code number and indicates special color Big Bad Orange and the "A" indicates Acrylic.E066478 - This is the sequence number (as it rolled down the actual assembly line) and indicates late February or early March 1969.The engine valve cover tag is:202W19 - Which decodes as 390 C.I.D. with a 4 barrel carburetor built February 19th 1969.On Jan-21-13 at 09:27:29 PST, seller added the following information: Added more pictures per request from several people. I cannot find the picture of the dent on left wheel well lip, I will continue to look and take another one if I have to.
