Vehicle Detail

Up for bid is a very nice 1960 Chevy Corvair, this is the first year of production, making it a nice collectable, unique treasure only to increase in value with time. I know much of the history of it’s life from the early 1980s, ( I have all the receipts, and lots of e-mails regarding this car)in the 80s it was purchased in Va. By a private investigator ,for his wife, in 2003 it had roughly $6,000 worth of work done to it.( all at the “Corvair Ranch” Including, all the brake system, many bushings, the motor was completely rebuilt, the heads were re-done with hardened valve seats for use with Unleaded gas. It had some body work done , and paint.. again, I have ALL the Receipts .And from e-mails that I have read ( they will be with all receipts) it was determined that the 40,000 something miles was original, from the amount of, (or lack of) wear on the mechanical parts. It wasn’t driven much since 2003 ?? and for some reason ( due to health I’m guessing) the car was donated to a local cancer society. Not sure how long it sat , or where, but it was sold at an auction in 2010 still with 40,000 something miles on it. I bought it from the man who bought it at the auction, ( he is an auto painter by trade) it ran AWESOME ( it still does) but the body showed years of neglect, mainly just the paint had a good bit of surface rust. After He purchased the car, he didn’t like sitting so low and it was hard for him to get in and out of ( he is well over 6’ tall) and has bad knees. He also had other “projects” in the works and the Corvair took a back seat and set out behind the barn for about a year, he noticed the surface rust getting worse , so to save it from further damage he lightly sanded ,and cleaned , primed, and put 2 heavy coats of “ford tractor blue” with a high gloss hardener ( very close to the original color) The paint job is great, in fact at 5 feet it’s beautiful, how ever upon close inspecting it, there is lots of “pits” that should have been filled in before paint .. it is still nice enough for me to Win at a car show, up against street rods worth upwards of $50,000.. the interior is decent , Original condition, the carpet needs replaced, the headliner is Brand new, but needs to be stretched to make it look “professional” . it has the original Gas fired heater, it works great , and has very hard to come by “ fender skirts” and original hubcaps, and beauty rings, the tires are very good condition steel belted radials.. the car is far from perfect, but is VERY nice and very dependable, I would feel safe driving it several hundred miles.. it is loved by all ages, you won’t be able to drive it without someone asking Questions, or giving you thumbs up… OH AND … it does have an AM /FM C-D player under dash… THE ONLY rust I have found is about a 6” circle on the floor (passenger side ) IT HAS BEEN REPAIRED, and a small amount in driver side rear wheel well IT HAS BEEN REPAIRED with metal welded in ( looks good ) in the pics. I have the “pits” in the paint circled in one pic. It is about the worst area.. contact me with any other Questions, HAPPY BIDDING, and good luck Located in Gettysburg Pa.
