Vehicle Detail

1966 Oldsmobile Toronado For sale is our 1966 Oldsmobile Toronado. The 1966 Toronado was General Motors’ first year production of front wheel drive. This Toronado is white with a dark blue Interior. I understand it to be the standard model. Automatic transmission, power steering, power brakes, AM radio, ventilation (no air conditioning), manual windows, non-remote mirror, cloth seats. The odometer reads 15,689 miles and represents the second time around thus the total miles on this Toronado are 115,689. One family owned since new until our purchase in May of this year. A doctor in Lansing, Michigan purchased this Toronado new and eventually sold it to his brother. The brother passed it on to his son. The brother’s son had the Toronado stripped, repaired, repainted, and the bumpers replaced with newly rechromed in July 1989. This Toronado has been garage kept (car cover included). It has been maintained as a summer driver and occasional local show car for more than 23 years. This Toronado has proven to be a reliable driver. Taken out on weekends, to several car shows, and occasionally to work. The longest trip made in a day was from Frankenmuth to Lansing, Michigan and back …. approximately 150 miles. The Toronado always starts with a little coaxing of the accelerator to prime the carburetor. The Toronado always draws attention on the road and conversation when you make a stop. The original cloth seats are in nice condition. The carpeting , also original, is worn down in the area around the built in floor mat under the brake and accelerator pedal. Things that do not work are the AM radio (it only makes momentary static when tuning), the clock, and the heater (the heater core was capped off by the prior owner due to a leak). The Toronado does spot the garage floor with drops of oil and transmission fluid. I have not had to add either to keep the levels up. The engine has not been rebuilt; I and the prior owner have been using a lead additive. The tail pipe on the driver’s side is cosmetic only. The (Midas) exhaust exits the transverse muffler and is connected only to the tail pipe ending at the chrome tip on the passenger side. Regarding the body, the work done in July 1989 addressed the lower body panels and the louvered panel behind the rear window. There is a rust spot showing, about the size of a nickel, at the front, bottom edge of the passenger door. I have included a picture of this spot. Please note the cost of the work done in 1989 totaled $1,650. The repairs and paint are driver quality. There are multiple runs in the paint; several runs on the passenger side A pillar. The wheels look very good having been stripped, repainted, and rebalanced. The headlight doors (vacuum actuators) open and close as they should. The tail light panel was not rechromed and has pitting; please see the photographs. The rear view mirror is de-silvering /spotted and the driver’s side view mirror will not stay in an adjusted position. A new rear view and side view mirror have been purchased, but not yet installed. These new mirrors will be included. Documentation that accompanies the Toronado are the GM Service and Chassis /Body Manuals, the Owners Manual, a showroom brochure, and a notebook that records the repairs made since August 1977. If you would like to inspect our Toronado before bidding, please contact me through eBay to arrange a day and time. I am a private enthusiast, not a dealer, there is no warranty and the Tornado is being sold as is. Payment is expected within a week of the end of the auction. Electronic transfer of funds is preferred. For a distant buyer, the title will be express mailed to the new owner after payment is confirmed by my bank. I can store the Toronado for a month while transportation is arranged.
