Note:The Ford Mustang Mach 1 was a performance model of the Ford Mustang that was introduced in August 1968 as a 1969 model. The newly restyled 1969 Mustang had two bodystyles, and the Mach 1 package was only available on the fastback version. The Mach 1 title adorned performance styled Mustang offerings until the end of the Mustang II in 1978. But collectors and Mustang fans only regard the 1969 to 1973 Mach 1s as "true" Mach 1s. 1973 would mark the end of the first generation of the ponycar. The Mustang had gained 575 pounds and was over a foot longer. Mustang was destined to undergo an extensive change in design for the 1974 model year. The 1973s were unchanged from their 1972 counterparts, but there were some differences to distinguish them. The front grille size and shape remained the same but the plastic egg-crate mesh was larger and mounted further forward. The pony and corral lost the horizontal bars but the shorter vertical ones returned. A new vertical parking/turn signal lights were mounted at each end of the grille and the entire area was surrounded by bright trim. Headlights fit into fender extensions and were housed within a chrome, rectangular bezel. The taillight bezels were bright metal. To meet government five-mph impact standards, the front bumper was fitted with a color-keyed, urethane impact-absorbing system and the rear bumper was mounted further away to comply with impact regulations. The Mach 1 received a new bodyside tape treatment and a three-quarter vinyl roof was optional on the Mach 1 and other SportsRoof models. Engine availability was unchanged from '72. The Hurst shifter with four-speed transmissions used a round knob rather than Hurst's T-handle. Total production : 134, 867 units. In all, a total of 10,820 SportsRoofs; 11,853 convertibles; 25,274 Grandes, 51,480 hardtops; and 35,440 Mach 1s. THIS MUSTANG IS A FACTORY MACH 1.---NOT a tribute. I listed the car previously accidentially using the Vin from the replacement door. The information from that Online Vin Decoder search was used. It freaked me out, because it said that the Mustang was a Sportsroof, not the Mach 1 as I knew the Mustang to be. The Mustand(listed as a "Tribute") was sold. The "Buyer" from Canada claimed that his son bid, but he still wanted the car,but would be out of town for a week. Then he claimed illness, but stated that he still wanted the Mustang, but did not have the money right now. I realized my mistake, but When I clicked on "Relist" I neglected to remove the word "tribute" from the Main Heading. The option was to end the listing and completely re-list the Mustang, but I thought it was not fair to those who were bidding. If the Mustang does not sell during this listing, the ad will be completely redone. To clarify several things--The bumper frame issue listed IS: Brackets are needed between the bumper and the frame. There is a small area of surface rust around the rear tail lights. Seemed to be a typical issue with the 1973 Mach 1. I Listed it as a SPORTSROOF because of the following information found online. IT IS A FASTBACK. "The Mach 1 was only available in the 'Sportsroof' body style(previously known as the 'Fastback') and therefore Ford never offered the Mach 1 as a coupe or convertible although many have been modified and styled to look like a Mach 1 by their owners. The Mach 1's original recipe was simple. It started with a V8 powered 'Sportsroof' body and added numerous visual and performance enhancing items such as matte black hood treatment with hood pins, hood scoop (including optional Shaker scoop), competition suspension, chrome pop-open gas cap, revised wheels with Goodyear Polyglas tires, chrome exhaust tips (except 351W 2V), deluxe interior, unmissable livery and dealer optional chin spoiler, rear deck spoiler, and rear window louvers" Here is the NADA for the 1973 Mustang MACH 1 with Factory Air, and the 351 Cleveland.
