Equipped with the big dog 455 CI Ram Air Induction System putting out over 365HP with 500 LB-Ft of torque. It is mated to the powerful His/Hers Hurst dual gate floor mounted automatic shifter. But wait, this is not your "run of the mill" Pace Car replica sold to the public in 1970. YES! This is a real Indy 500 1970 Parade Lap car. On May 30, 1970 it was on the Parade Lap, car #83 of ONLY a hand full that actually saw 1970 Indy 500 track duty! It was assigned to and operated by a GM engineer of the time, J.E. Knott, who enjoyed it while driving "Miss Indy 500" around the track for the Parade Lap as well as the full Indy week of activities prior to it being returned to the local dealer and sold to the public. Original documentation and original owner's manual to support this is included, both the Indy Pace car information documents as well as the official driver's instructions and "authorization for use-courtesy car" from Oldsmobile to the Indy 500 Parade. The holes drilled into the trunk bed to hold the "special" parade flags are still present. Re-production "yellow flags" as well as their support stance for the car are available as well, to give it that TRUE "as it was" look on its special Sunday in May of 1970. In 1970 Oldsmobile produced ONLY 269 convertible Pace Car replicas for sale to the Public. VERY VERY few were true "Parade Lap" cars, as this one was. It was also a very highly optioned car from the factory, having power steering, power brakes, power top, rare air conditioning, AM/FM stereo radio, special hood, super stock II wheels, sport mirrors, G70 X 14 white letter tires, black leather interior, courtesy lights, heavy duty suspension, stabilizer bars front and rear, weight savings fiberglass hood with functional air scoops and the Pace Car decals all under the "Special Order" Y74 option code. Original keys included. A GM Heritage Collection certified vehicle On July 7, 1970 a very lucky Dale Lakin of Indianapolis became the first public owner of this special car. He enjoyed and cared for this car all the way until July of 2003 when its second owner, Dennis E. McCreery of the same town took possession of it. In late 2010 an extensive restoration was performed to have the car ready and perfect for the 2011 "100 Year Pace Car Reunion" held at the Indy 500 track on May 2011. Full picture documentation is available, showing the extensive mechanical and cosmetic restoration. Inclusive of engine/transmission rebuild but not limited to, new top hydraulics and arms, exhaust system, brakes, shocks, bearings, tires. Less than 500 miles have been logged since its restoration. The interior remains 100% all original as well as the convertibles top and all sheet metal, which all were and are in excellent condition, no rips, tears or rust of any kind. Documentation for the car from its birth includes vehicle warranty book, Goodyear Tire warranty book as well as multiple registration certificates from over the past 10 years. The car runs super strong, as it should after it's restoration and everything works as it should when it left the factory, including ice cold A/C.
