Vehicle Detail

1964 Ford Fairlane 500 2-Door Hardtop. My first car! I have owned it for the past 26 years. White base coat with a slight bit of blue pearl in the clear and blue interior. Scott Sullivan graphics on the rear of the deck lid. This car has been built since 1992. It went on the entire Hot Rod Magazine Power Tour in 2002 and became a member of the "Long Haul Gang", after being driven 3300 miles in 11 days. What a blast! It is not near a perfect car. It's simply a driver to go out and have fun with. My son and I are currently building another Fairlane and need to sell this one to help pay for the rebuild on the other one. Car has been stored in a garage for the past 10 years. Just got it out a month ago. Put $1000 in it, replacing all of the fluids, filters, battery, rebuilt the carb, new rear axle bearings, fuel pump, etc. Been driving it around having some fun before it leaves us. Motor: Mid 70's 302 block, completely rebuilt in 1992 that now has approximately 20,000 miles on it. Bored 0.030" over with Crane Cam (mild lift/duration...a little lumpy), Pete Jackson Gear Drive, Edelbrock performer intake, Edelbrock 600 cfm carb. Stock heads and intake manifolds. Dual exhaust. All aluminum radiator with 2 electric fans. Transmission: Car was originally an automatic. Now with a mid 60's top loader 4 speed. Rebuilt in 1992. Grinds slightly when shifting into 4th, if doing so quickly. Trans will need rebuilt to correct this issue. Clutch linkage was fabricated to work with an original clutch pedal assembly and mid 70's fork and bell-housing. Not the best looking, but has worked for years. Rear End: Stock rearend with drum brakes. Just replaced fluids and rear axle bearings. Rear end knocks slightly when slowing down. Has done this since we first purchased the car 26 years ago. Could never figure out what was making the noise. Hasn't created any issues. Emergency brake is not functional. Suspension: Stock front and rear suspension. One coil has been cut from the front springs. This made the car too low, so spacers were added to bring it back up a little. Rear end has air shocks. Drum brakes all the way around. Wheels are ET's in the rear and Ansen's in the front. All are 14". Tires have good tread, but are at least 10 years old. Body: Paint is in fair shape. There are a few scratches and chips here and there from years of driving. The worst are the chips on the passenger side of the hood. There are rust bubbles on the bottom of each rear quarter panel and front fender. The pictures do not do a good job of showing the rust or bubbles, but they are there. The car will certainly need new rear quarters and inner fenders. All the trim is there and in decent shape, but not near perfect. There are scratches and minor dings in some of them. The chrome sail panels are pitted and will need rechromed. The bumpers have been painted. Note that the bumper bolts are gone. The studs are welded on the back side of the bumpers to give them a more smooth look. In 1992, the floor was patched in the front driver's side area and in both spots behind the front seats. In the rear, where the springs mate to the uni-body, this area has splitting, which is typical of most mid 60's fords. Looking up and under the car, you can see the rusted areas that were patched and the rear quarters and inner fenders that have rusted. Glass is decent, but not perfect. The windshield has some minor scratches from previous wiper issues. Interior; Blue interior with vinyl seats and dark blue carpet. Rear seat is stock. Front seats are from early 70's Mustang. Dash and doors were repainted when the car was rebuilt. Paint is in pretty good shape, with some minor scuffing and scratches. Sony pullout stereo with 6x9 speakers and 80 watt amplifier. VDO tachometer, oil pressure, voltage, and water temperature gauges added to the original cluster. Tach mounted on the steering column. The others are in a SS cluster mounted just below the dash. Original gauges are not hooked up, including the speedometer. When the 4 speed was added, the cable was not long enough to reach the trans. Fuel gauge recently stopped working. Haven't looked into it yet. Heater is not hooked up. I think all parts are there, but hasn't been used. Ignition key tumbler is a little tight. You have to have the key just right to start the car. This car is a driver. As you can see, it is not even close to being a perfect show car, and was never intended to be. It was a great first car for a kid who wanted to rebuild one with a limited budget. I have tried to explain most issues with the car. I'm sure I missed a few, but hopefully you can get a good feel for the overall condition. Please email through ebay with questions.
