NO RESERVE !! Priced to sell. Starting bid way below NADA guide. RARE - 1978 Volkswagen Champagne Edition II Peach Red Metallic (LE3Y) Less than 300 ever made worldwide (source: Barrett Jackson.com) Photo Album with 70+ photos (Click or Copy-and-paste Link below) https://plus.google.com/photos/104147526227554379610/albums/5802338300033010289 Turn-Key and ready to enjoy! Unfortunately, I do not have the time to enjoy this weekend-driver beauty anymore, so the time has come for me to sell. Here is your opportunity to own a piece of Volkswagen history with this beautiful and very rare Champagne Edition II - considered by many to be the "Cadillacs" of the Volkswagen Beetles due to all the deluxe factory upgrades made to this limited edition. Volkswagen Champagne Edition HISTORY The Champagne Edition II convertibles were only produced a single year (1978) and available only in two single-year colors; Ancona Blue Metallic and Peach Red Metallic (LE3y). That year, each dealer was allotted only two of the Champagne II models and the cars were quickly gobbled up by excited consumers and knowledgeable buyers who knew Volkswagen was nearing the end of its convertible beetle production. In early sales, the Ancona Blue Metallic was a more popular color making the Peach Red Metallic the rarest of the two. It is estimated that only 272 of the Limited Champagne Edition II were made worldwide (source: Barrett Jackson.com). Please Note: The RARITY of this vehicle is derived from its unique paint and cosmetic trim (e.g., Burled Elm Trim on the Dash, etc) . Mechanically, it is the same as all beetles produced from early 70's through final production in1979 (with their respective yearly upgrades), therefore new and used parts continue to be readily available. eBAY Reviews & Guides: Champagne Beetle Convertible Identification Please take time to read this ebay article on this very special automobile. http://reviews.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Champagne-Beetle-Convertible-Identification?ugid=10000000003621735 ORIGINAL 1978 VOLKSWAGEN FULL-COLOR BROCHURE - Showcasing The Limited Champagne Edition II http://www.a2resource.com/brochures/1978/champagneeditionII/champagneeditionII.html DESCRIPTION Everything on this gem is original - has new tires and recently replaced convertible top. This rare vehicle has been garaged-kept all of its life (has spent a couple of nights outdoors while at overnight shows/trips, but always with custom waterproof car cover). Absolutely NO rust whatsoever. The original upholstery is in VERY GOOD condition aside from only 2 very minor cracks. The original Dash board is absolutely immaculate. The original clock's red seconds hand runs but the clock does not keep time well. Original Owner's Manual is in "Like new" condition. Original Engine and original Fuel injection are intact and run like a champ. Car has been professionally maintained throughout its life (no issues whatsoever). New convertible top has been recently and professionally replaced with a white (not sand color) vinyl top. Convertible top mechanism in perfect condition. Top easily goes down to enjoy topless and easily comes back up with no problems. Paint is in great overall shape, but does have some rock dings on the hood and some imperfections - nonetheless I was assured by the professional paint shop that the paint can nowadays be absolutely perfectly matched via computer aided matching and other imperfections can be quickly corrected due to their minor nature. NADA Guides has the 1978 VW Convertible for $14,000. (Avg Retail), but that is clearly not for the Limited Champagne Edition II. http://www.nadaguides.com/Classic-Cars/1978/Volkswagen/Beetle/2-Door-Convertible/Values Please feel free to ask any questions.
