The early success of other GM division big-block cars pushed Chevrolet to pump up the power in its 1965 Chevelle in a big way, stuffing the smallish mid-sized mainstay with the hairiest 396 available, the 375-horsepower Z16. With only 200 coupes and one convertible slated for the market, a small number of prototypes were built to insure the final product would stand up to the engine’s massive power. To capitalize on its special nature, it was sold only to special customers whose ownership would underline the Chevelle’s reputation as the new king of the hill. Based on an original SS 138 car, this Z16 clone recaptures much of that feel from 1965 and was originally built as a true 138 SS, Crocus Yellow car. This rust free Arizona car has been media blasted and painted correctly with all details in mind. Set off with the Chevy mag style hubcaps, this Z16 is appointed with correct fender emblems and displays a reproduction rear molding, one of the Z16’s most distinguished looks. The rust free frame has been finely detailed. The black interior has been completely redone and is equipped with the sport steering wheel, Z16 160 speedometer and tach, as well as a period correct dash clock. The engine compartment has been completely detailed and houses a very strong, but driver friendly 454 with a TH400. This Z16 is equipped with power steering and upgraded with power front disc brakes.
