The Mighty Midget
The Mark III MG Midget was introduced in October 1966 as a 1967 model. Both the Midget and its companion Austin-Healey Sprite received the 65 hp BMC A-series engine, now displacing 1275 cc. It was the same engine as the Mini Cooper S, but detuned, and it could push the boxy little roadster to 60 mph in 14.7 seconds on its way to a top speed of about 94 mph.
The example offered here has strayed a little from the stock configuration mentioned above. With autocross competing in mind, some performance and styling enhancements were made to this very solid rust free example. The motor is fresh with a performance cam added as well as different carburetor and intake. Rack and pinion steering and upgraded suspension pieces have been utilized for better handling. The car has been converted into roadster only configuration, lightened by removing glass and window mechanisms, bumpers and trim. Competition seats, new interior carpet and panels were added and a roll bar has been implemented for safety. In short, this little thing scoots. This little car has a huge fun factor, one that can be enjoyed in local touring events, autocross competitions, and local track events.
