Back To Top On Nov-14-12 at 11:15:17 PST, seller added the following information: There has been slandering on Jalopnick.com about the authenticity of this car. The owner of another Days of Thunder car is calling it a fake to discredit our car to protect the value of his car, which he had paid $40k for. He is worried our car will sell for considerably less, lowering the value of his car. So call our car a fake so it won't jeperdize his value. Therefore, I would like to prove the authenticity of our car even further. It has a SHORT history of ownership since the movie. The person we bought the car from bought it from Hendrick Motorsports directly, through Group Promotions of Pontiac Mi who used to handle all the sales of sports memoribilia. The car comes with a letter of authenticity from Hendrick Motorsports that the cars they sold to Group Promotions were the ones from the movie. There is no VIN number on the car or the letter for a direct connection. Also, if you try to match the car up to what you see in the movie, there are differences. Remember, 11 cars were used and no 2 are 100% identicle. However, fortunatly this is obviously the car that was used in the official Press Release set out back in 1990. You can match this car up perfectly to the one in the Press Release. A few of the items, look through the windsheild and see how the roll bars match up perfectly. Also note on this car, there are no ribs on the roof. The hold downs located on top of the windsheild are identicle. The grill is identicle, there is a piece of metal about 6 inches long that hangs below the body of the car on both the one in the photo and ours. The decal placments match up perfectly with the one in the photo, a few to spot, the DIE HARD decal on the front fender, same spot and all the surrounding decals are proprtionaly spaced around that one. The Y on the hood where it says "enjoy Meool Yello" falls into the same curve on the hood, the line from the mountain ends in the same location at the far right hood pin and the R is proportionalty spaced from there. The Winston decal is located on the same curve on the front fener and all surrounding decals are proportionate. The review mirror is the same review mirror. When this car was purchased by the previous owner, it did not have an engine and was not running. A new crate engine was installed and other mechanicle add-ons as well. He also added some additional decals to the car. When you compare the press release photo and the current photos THE ONLY differences are from items that were ADDED, otherwise, nothing has been removed. On Nov-15-12 at 08:30:36 PST, seller added the following information: Today I got off of the phone with Hendrick Motorsports after submitting them the info, pictures and documents about this car. Of the cars that were built only 4 were built to race specs and those were the only 4 that recieved any type of markings. The additional cars were built cheaper and did not meet race specs, they met movie specs. Tom Cruise did not drive the actual race cars, he only drove the movie spec cars. Hendrick says the car does meet the standards of the cars that were used, it does appear to be the car in the press photo and has strong probibility. While the probability is there and the history and documents do favor its movie use, Hendrick cannot certify it for 1 simple fact, none of the movie spec cars had VIN's or markings. They continued to say that even if there was an image of the late Jimmy Johnson, with this car on their showroom floor, they still would not be able to certify it. Unfortunatly the only way to 100% certify it would be with some type of VIN marking, which never exisited. However this also adds more authenticity to this car because there are no markings, which means it was never a race car. Hendrick did also stated that they cannot disproved the authenticity either.
