Vehicle Detail

You are viewing a very well loved 300TD wagon. I have owned this wagon for the past 12 years, and it has served us faithfully. Regretably, it has not seen much service for the past five years as it has primarily spent it's days stored in our airport hangar and used as an occasional loaner car to fellow pilots. My wife and I are preparing for semi-retirement and we must start down-sizing the items that are just not being used. Now a little bit about this Benz. As the photos show, this 123 wagon is finished in the very rare English Red, most folks would call it "orange" or "pumpkin"! The body does have rust issues which must be corrected soon. The primary ares of rust are: tailgate, left quarter panel, right fender leading edge, and inner rocker panels. These areas are repairable. All other areas seem to be fine. All glass is free from cracks. Interior Benz-Tex seats are in very nice shape as is the headliner and trim. The wood is free from cracks and shows well. The dash is original and has no cracks. The steering wheel still shows as "new". Carpets are complete, very clean and protected by Mercedes floor mats. Sunroof works flawlessly and does not have water leaks or wind noise. All power windows work. The door locks all work, but sometimes slowly. All electrical components work with the exception of the cruise control which will not hold speed setting, and the climate control for A/C which blows warm. The radio works and the power antenae moves up and down, but sometimes won't retract fully. Mechanically, the car needs help. The rear suspension has a leaking hydraulic line at the valve body, and as a result, the rear now sags and will splatter hydraulic fluid on our garage floor, something that is not making my wife very happy! The engine is strong and runs beautifully at highway speeds, but has an occasional rough idle. I've been told that this could be a vacumn problem. The transmission slips between 1st and 2nd; it's done this for the past 40,000+ miles and again I suspect a vacumn issue. By easing back on the throttle, between 1st and 2nd, the slip goes away....I've just lived with it! The car goes down the road beautifully; the steering is tight and with the exception of the rear suspension dragging, is a very comfortable ride. Tires are TOYO's and have plenty of miles left on them. Alloy wheels are in nice shape as is the spare. I have invoices for the past 12 years that record routine oil changes, injector service, timing chain replacements, front suspension work, etc. About five years ago I bought a used tailgate which was rust free. I will include that with the auction. Also, the car has a custom fitted cover cover. I've done my best to point out the flaws in this vehicle, but the positives far outweigh the negatives. I would not hesitate to drive the Benz across country, for it is a very dependable, safe ride. It just needs the attention of a Mercedes enthusiast to bring it back to it's elegant self. I believe that I am the third owner, as the car was purchased new from our local Benz dealer and has always been an Annapolis owned vehicle. I'm not certain, but I believe I have the original owners manual and maintenance books. PLEASE do not bid on this car if you are not prepared to invest on it's restoration. We really want it to end up in the hands of an owner who will enjoy it as much as we have. I will require a non-refundable deposit of $500 within three days of auction close by PayPal only. Final balance will be due with-in seven days of auction close. Shipping is the responsibility of buyer, however I will deliver the car within a 25 mile radius of my home after payment has been made in full. Please ask questions and I will do my best to answer quickly and honestly. Check my feedback and bid with confidence. Thanks for viewing my auction. On Oct-22-12 at 03:49:35 PDT, seller added the following information: 10/22/12 I forgot to mention in describing the rust issues that there is rust on the inside bottom of the driver door; it's not visible from the outside, but needs to be addressed. Also, I found the large shop manuals, Vols.1 and 2, owners manual, parts manual and service book.
