Vehicle Detail

I purchased this 1967 GTO approximately 4 years ago with the intention of doing a frame off restoration with modern suspension, engine and driveline upgrades. Enough GTO purists suggested that it would be a shame to alter such an original car that I temporarily put those plans on hold at that time. I've decided it's either time to proceed with my plans to build the car as I would like it or to sell the car to someone who appreciates a well documented survivor type car. The car was originally sold at Boomershine Pontiac in Atlanta, Georgia and came equiped with a cordova top, automatic tranmission, power antenna, AM push button radio, remote control mirror, custom front and rear seat belts, deluxe wheel discs, console, power steering, power brakes, tinted glass all windows and air conditioning. When Jim Wangers saw the options he said "It must have been ordered by a woman!" It was, in fact, and she owned it for approximately twenty years which probably account for the outstanding condition it is in today. The interior, with the exception of the driver's window crank is all original and looks better that many freshly restored cars! The original date coded carpet is in place, looks nearly new and shows no signs of fading which suggests that the car didn't spend a lot of time out in the sun. The seat belts are as black as they were new and show no signs of wear. Although I removed the floormats to show what the carpet look like, they are original and though somewhat stiff, they appear to have seen very little use. The vinyl top is original and still has the factory plastic inserts that help secure the top behind the rain gutters -- probably 95% of GTO's are missing these and those that do have them are often cracked. Paint on the left front fender, left door, rear valence, trunk, right rear quarter panel and right door is original. The left quarter was repainted with lacquer when the car was relatively new and the right front fender, blending into the hood was treated to a low quality enamel paint at some point in the 80's. At that time someone also painted the tops of the inner fenders and radiator support with an incorrect shade of black. Most of the chrome and the stainless on the car is outstanding with the exception of the rear bumper which has deterioration of the chrome near the exhaust outlets. The trunk floor is original but was repainted at some point in the past. I took the original trunk mat out to prevent any moisture from accumulating between it and the metal floor. The mat is brittle and has some cracks but will be put back when sold. The car remained in Georgia until 1989 when it was purchased by a collector in Texas who put very few miles on the car and also included a written narrative which indicated the car car was only wet two times duing his approximate 17 years of ownership -- once to wash it when he purchased it and another when it was rained on coming back from a car show. Some service items including shocks, radiator cap, exhaust, etc, have been replaced and are not original to the car. The brake master cylinder, fuel filter and radio speaker have also been replaced but the originals are included with the vehicle. Note that the dealer stock number is still visible on the left door and matches the number on the owners manual protective cover! The gas tank still has the origianl USS stamp visible. The often missing foam cover on the temperature sending unit can be seen in the engine picture. The car starts easily, has a feeling of factory integrity and solidness that often isn't found in frame off restored cars and will cruise down the highway at 70 m.p.h with one finger on the steering wheel. Extensive documentation comes with the car including PHS documents, warranty and owner protection plan book, receipt for down payment when ordered, buyers order sheet, receipt for payment of car when delivered, original title and more. The salesman who placed the order wrote "large caps" on the order sheet for the wheel covers and it came in with the deluxe covers. Apparently the buyer wanted the wire wheel covers instead and had them swapped. I have an extensive collection of Pontiac parts and have a set of NOS deluxe wheel discs as well as a matching set of restored 67 Rallye II wheels available for purchase if a prospective buyer is interested in an alternative look. Reply through ebay if you have further questions. Asking price for this car when I bought it was $39,500.00 -- if you want an original car, or want to build a car and not deal with an eastern or midwestern rustbucket, don't let this opportunity passs you by! The car is sold as is with no warranty implied or expressed. Prospective buyers are welcome and encouraged to inspect the car prior to bidding. A $500 deposit will be required within 24 hours of auction end. Buyer is responsible for all shipping charges and arrangements but I will provide whatever assistance is required for loading. I reserve the right to end this auction at any time prior to auction end. Good luck bidding.
