1963 Checker Aerobus A-12 This auction is for a 1963 Checker Aerobus A-12. For those of you who know these vehicles, they are becoming extremely rare to find, especially in this shape. Approximately 3,500 Aerobus A-12 were produced from 1961-1977. They were used mainly for airport shuttles or military bases. Most of them are either rusted beyond repair or ended up in the junkyard. This particular Aerobus did service at the San Diego Airport through 1973. The body was then restored I figure in the late mid to late 70's and shipped to South Carolina where it stored in a warehouse for almost 40 years. During that time, under 300 miles were put on the Aerobus. I purchased the vegicle last year and have done a lot of work on it. I hate to see it go but the main reason I am selling it is because I do not have the room for a 23 foot vehicle. In addition, I have other classic cars which I do not have time to drive so this one has to go. I had a great time driving it all summer. The looks on people's faces was priceless. This Aerobus is in great condition given its age. Further restoration is still needed but the car can be driven as is. It runs extremely well, I would drive the car anywhere. Here are some details: - Car tuned up (believe the engine is a V-8 283) - 3-Speed Automatic transmission (was once standard) - New battery, belts, radiator sealed. - New Brakes (drum) - 4 New Whitewall Tires (less than 200 miles on them) - Brand New Interior (New Seats, Headliner, Door Panels, Carpet) Cost over $5000. - Driver/Passenger Front floors patched and supported - Frame in excellent shape - All glass in tact, none broken - New seat belts installed throughout the vehicle Car still needs: - 12 clips for headliner support bars (1.00/each from checkerparts.com) - Windowlace - Window Felt - New Door Seals - speedometer/odometer not working (true mileage unknown) - some rust issues addressed (bubbling paint in various places) - outer spare wheel well underneath trunk need patching (does not effect anything) - tailgate window mechanism needs to be installed (have spare one) - spare tire (have rim) This car will get heads turning wherever you drive.
