Vehicle Detail
This is a no minimum, no reserve auction. The high bidder will own this beautiful Early CJ. I am selling my really nice CJ5. This Jeep had a full nut and bolt restoration about 7 years ago by a jeep fanatic (not me). It was completely rebuilt including fully restored frame, new body (fiberglass tub, steel front clip). Rebuilt motor, transmission, transfer case, differentials, axles, etc, etc. You get the idea. The jeep was made new again, down to every fastener, gasket, wire and fitting. As you Jeep fanatics can tell, it was not built to recreate a completely stock and original concourse jeep. It was built to drive, not as a show car. Some parts are modern updates to the original components. For example, the windshield frame is from a more recent jeep with the wiper motor mounted in the lower left corner, and the front fenders have side marker lights which were not original. Obviously, the wheels are not stock. It has been used since the restoration but probably less than 1000 miles. The pictures show it as it sits right now, I didn't even wash it or clean it for the pictures. The Jeep runs and drives really well. It runs and shifts smooth, the brakes, suspension and steering work as they should. I would guess it drives as well as (maybe better than) when it was new. I installed a brand new ATV overdrive (over $1000!) a couple hundred miles ago. This makes a big difference in everyday drivability. The full Bestop soft top is also new. The previous owner installed a heating and defrost unit. It works great but I took it out this summer because there is a rattle inside of it that was driving me crazy. It could be reinstalled in a few minutes. (see pic) I modified the fiberglass tub on the wheel-well behind the driver's seat in order to gain some extra leg room (cut out and replaced a 6" x 8" part). I got at least 3 inches more leg room by doing it so that it is more comfortable to drive for tall people (I'm 6'4"). The fiberglass work is not perfect but it's behind the seat and you can't see it. You could easily sand, fill, and paint it in a couple of hours if you wanted to. (see pics) The only issues that the jeep has are: The speedometer and odometer just stopped working, I have not investigated this. The temp gauge in the speedo also does not work (I also have not investigated this). It sometimes will pop out of 2nd gear under strong engine braking. Experts tell me that this is either a problem with the poppet spring/ball (hopefully!, it should be an easy and cheap fix) or a 2nd gear synchro issue. It does not affect the way it upshifts or downshifts and only occurs occasionally under hard engine braking. As I said before the engine and trans were rebuilt less that a thousand miles ago so I would be surprised if the synchro was worn. There is a gas can (jerry can) rack on the back, the can is included in the sale, as are a nice pair of aluminum side steps that I took off. I am not a Jeep expert so if you see something I need to mention here please let me know. I have a clear New York State Transferable Registration. New York does not issue titles for vehicles of this age, this registration serves as the title and is accepted by all other states. I have included a short walk around video and a test drive video below. Please feel free to come and look at it in person if you can (before the end of the auction). I would plan on trailering it or trucking it if you don't live within 100 miles of Ithaca. It runs and drives great but I wouldn't drive it across the country. I have driven it about 75 miles at a time and I was pretty tired of it. It's loud, bumpy and smelly (runs a bit rich), what more could you want? I know most people take these things seriously but just as a reminder - if you bid, bid to own this Jeep. I have listed it with no reserve and intend to sell this Jeep to the highest bidder. Please have your funding worked out before you bid. OK, cool. ThanksGreg
