The name '442' first appeared in '64 as options for the F-85 and Cutlass. The 442 was called the 'B09 Police Apprehender' option which included a four-barrel carbureted 330 cubic-inch V8, Dual exhaust with 310 horsepower. The suspension, shocks, clutch, transmission, driveshaft, brakes, and wheels were also greatly improved. The name '4-4-2' evolved from the combination of options: 4-4-2 meaning four-barrel , four-speed transmission, and dual exhausts. The 442 had been offered in retaliation of the Pontiac Tempest GTO which was unexpectedly popular. Oldsmobile wanted some of those sales. The 442 was offered on any F-85 or Cutlass model.
This vehicle has been fully restored and finished in original colors of Target Red exterior and Red Vinyl interior with White Top. Equipped with a strong running 455 V8 and 4 speed transmission this car is ready to run and drives excellent. We have attended several cruise nights with the vehicle and the motor is very powerful and shifting is smooth, quick and responsive. All chrome and stainless trim are in good condition and top operates as it should. Seats are nice and comfortable, Paint is fresh and very nice.
