Vehicle Detail

1988 Mercedes-Benz, 3 seat 300 TE Wagon, 6 cyl, gas engine, 130,000 miles, A Good Project to Finish, Nice Normal 0 0 1 562 3206 Evergreen Publishing 26 6 3937 11.1539 0 0 0 I am selling my 1988 Mercedes 300TE wagon. I bought this car about 9 months ago from an estate sale. I am a photographer and my plan was to restore it and drive it to Alaska, with the Artic Circle as the final stop. It has 130,000 miles. It was stored inside and side outside for almost seven years. It runs great. Since I purchased it I have driven it maybe 5-10 miles just for road testing. It is a nice car with no rust, and a few door dings. It needs a professional machine waxing to bring out the shine, and to remove the remnants of old pin strips. I have done all the heavy lifting. I started at the front and worked to the back. It has new brakes; calipers, hoses, pads, rotors (the front are slotted), and master cylinder, and new wheel bearings. It has a new serpentine belt and water hoses. The radiator has been cleaned and refilled with Mercedes coolant. The powers steering fluid has been drained and refilled with premium fluid. It has a new battery. The plugs are 4 point Bosch platinum. The engine has fresh Mobil1, and the transmission has been serviced and refilled with Mobil1 fluid, and has a large capacity transmission fluid cooler (I was going to tow a small boat). The rear axel has been drained and replaced with Mobil1 gearbox oil. The fuel injection system was removed and cleaned. The gas tank was cleaned inside. All the engine sensors were replaced along with the fuel relay, and all the fuel lines that go along with two new fuel pumps, and all the filters. The exhaust system is CAT free with a brand new rear Mercedes factory muffler. It is 25 years old so it is exempt. It has 4 nearly new Dunlop Sport tires, on rare factory 15x&7.5 alloys made in Italy with a factory spare. It has a complete set of new ball joints and tie-rods. I was waiting for the time when I would send it to the alignment shop for alignment to replace the ball joints and tie rods. I put a new steering column in, as the steering wheel cover on the original unit had softened with age. The tan interior is ok, but I came across a nice grey leather interior that I am switching out. It goes very nicely with the color of the car. The dash has a couple of minor cracks. Both interiors go with the car. The car will need a windshield. It has a crack. That was the last thing on my list. The headliner is nice, and the sunroof shows no signs of leaking. And works!! It is still sporting the original OEM radio. Replacing it was way down on my life of things to do. To complete the car it needs the rest of the interior to be installed, get the front-end work done, and replace the windshield. And I’m sure a little shakedown driving. I am flat running out of time. I am 66 years old and the project is taking longer than I thought it would and I want to get to Alaska. As luck would have it I came across a very nice AWD 97 Subaru Legacy wagon that might even be a better choice for the trip. I have done almost all the work myself so I can answer any questions. I really attacked the Benz with the thought in mind that I wanted to be on the road in a car that I new was ready for the trip. If you have experience with Mercedes wagons this could be a great project for you. Finish up what I started and enjoy driving it, or take it for parts. It is loaded with new and slightly used parts. There are a lot of extra parts to go with it and finish the job. It has 2 keys, one for the ignition and the doors. The owner lost the key so I put new a switch in, and replaced all the door handles, and bought a separate lift gate lock (very hard to find). It really is a nice car. Comes with tool kits and original manuals. Last man standing owns the car. My neighbor is in the classic car hauling business and he may be able to help you with the delivery. Important Note I have it for sale in the front yard as well, so if someone stops by and wants it, I will end the auction.
