Vehicle Detail
This GTO's history with me: I purchased this GTO in December 2005 from THE CHARLES MOTOR COMPANY in St. Louis Missouri, A classic car brokerage firm. Their client was a Widow, who's husband had spent a ton of money restoring this car with SCHULZE CLASSIC CAR RESTORATION, also out of Missouri. Over 600 restoration hours were in the logbook with them. I first discovered the car in HEMMINGS MOTOR NEWS in October 2005, listed for $54,000. I then saw it come up on E-bay. I was the high bidder 2 times with it, both times not meeting the reserve. Finally, the Charles Motor Comany contacted me, to see if we could negotiate a price. I had them convince the seller, that there was no way she would recover the full invested money, and we settled on what was a really good deal for me at $22,000. Now about the car: It is a real 1969 GTO. It has a 455 big block, which I was told is over 600 HP through correspondance with the broker. I never had it on a dyno to prove, but the level of compression and power seems to be there. It is nicely cam'ed and has a set of headers and header mufflers. Also you can hear that he put steel timing gears in it. He had also installed a high flow fuel pump at the tank, with a safety cutoff. It is coupled up to a Turbo 400 transmission with a decent shift kit. I invested several thousand additional money on some items which I felt the car needed further. Brian Trick out of PA professionally built me a posi rearend with 3:73 gear ratio. I installed a new Holley 850 cfm Double Pumper on top of the Edlebrock manifold. Also put a high output Davis Inified Ignition System in. As for the interior, it was nearly perfect, but I replaced the console, as the one that was in there had a tear in the side of it. Also found the correct AM radio, and replaced the in dash tachometer due to the original one was a bit flakey. Also bought a new spare tire and rim. The car has American Racing aluminum rims with 275/60R15's and 215/60R15's (BF T/A Radials). Tread is still excellent. This GTO was painted a stunning metallic black 2-stage finish. The frame and under carriage the same black. The underside is still as perfectly clean as it was when it was restored. The paint still shows off extremely well, and will for quite some time to come. It does have some minor imperfections, scratches, and chips, but have to look close to see. If one was to repaint this car again (cannot currently justify as it is still really good), it would certainly be back in that $30,000 + class. $500 downpayment through Paypal for the winning bidder within 48 hours of auction close. Balance due within 7 days of auction close with Cashiers Check or Money Order. No International Bidders.
