1983 AMC EAGLE SX/4 Up for sale is my 1983 AMC Eagle SX/4 with 4 speed manual transmission and a straight six cylinder engine. I purchased the vehicle a few months ago from a private seller and unfortunately I have to sell it now. Since acquiring the car the clutch slave and the clutch master have been replaced. The accelerator cable has also been replaced and the emergency break cable has been replaced. Needs some TLC and more work to get it back to its former glory. The vehicle is solid but does have some exterior rust and minor floor rot. The engine runs well and starts up with no problem. After replacing the clutch system, I noticed the vehicle was shifting rough. Turns out the 4 speed shifter will need to be replaced (owner before me had improperly installed a different shifter). I have since removed the shifter but I will include the shifter and shifter boot with the car in case you wish to put it back on. I do not know if the 4 wheel drive mechanism will engage, I have only driven it since replacing the clutch system on the 2 wheel drive mode. If you are aware of the history of the AMC Eagle you will know it was the first "cross-over" type car with the 2 wheel drive to 4 wheel drive option. I see a lot of 4 door models on eBay but the 2 door SX/4 hatchback is a little harder to come by. As far as what else works on the vehicle, electrical systems (A/C, AM/FM radio, windshield wipers, headlights/tail lights) are working. The right turn indicator won't turn on though, but the left one works fine. As far as the exterior, I have the missing stripping on the driver's side door. It fell off and just needs to be reapplied. I will include four hubcaps with this auction to for who ever wins the car. Also has the original owners manual. Has a valid N.J. registration and a clear N.J. title. I would recommend having it towed since I removed the shifter, but if you buy and want to throw it back on and drive home, it's possible.
