Vehicle Detail

Here we have a 1986 Mitsubishi Starion ESI-R Widebody in fantastic condition. This is a very clean example and is priced accordingly. I drive this car during the summer only, and commute 50 miles round trip. It's a blast to drive, and I've put 13,000 miles on it in a little over a year, and I can assure you that everything is in proper working order. I've been doing routine/semi-routine maintenance on it as needed and enjoying the car. According to the CARFAX report I am the 4th owner, and I have already paid for and made the report available for your convenience below. I'm selling to upgrade my daily car. I'd love to keep it, and will probably get another one in a few years. Clean title in hand. Ready to go. DOWNLOAD THE ALREADY RUN CARFAX REPORT HERE (PDF) HIGH RESOLUTION IMAGES HERE (External link) 100,750 miles and going strong (may be slightly higher, I still drive it occasionally)R04 Rio Red with Black Leather interior (highly desirable color combination)2.6L G54B Inline 4 Turbocharged Engine5 speed manual transmissionDunlop Direzza High Performance Summer Tires with +60% tread left.Wing and rear bumper insert painted black by a previous owner. It grew on me, so I left it that way.Black fog surrounds.Excellent condition front airdam/valence!!! (very hard to find)All the glass is in excellent shape (also hard to find)Starts every timeIdles SmoothPulls hardHandles excellent!Shifts great! No leaksMitsubishi OEM Floormats!!! (Super RARE)Everything works on this car, which is incredibly rare and indicative of a well-maintained vehicle. Even the trunk struts are fully functional, and the power antenna works. This was Mitsubishi's flagship car back in the day, so it's got some nice modern features. This vehicle has:Power LocksPower MirrorsPower WindowsInterior Dome LightsPop Up HeadlightsPower AntennaCruise ControlABSClimate ControlAdjustable Manual SeatsClockThese cars changed a bit from year to year. This is a 1986 model, and has some differences that make this car desirable such as manual seatbelts (87-89's have the annoying automatic ones). This car also has excellent condition leather seats. It is well known that 1986 seats have the best leather out of the model run, very thick and firm. Difficult to wear out. This car is very close to stock condition. The only engine-related modification I made was to gut out the pre-cat after the turbo, I did this when I replaced the exhaust manifold and turbo gaskets around 90,000 miles. The resulting exhaust note is a little louder than stock, but doesn't drone, it also gave a noticeable improvement on the butt dyno. The EGR system has been deleted, which actually helps with idle and low end power. This car is 26 years old and not subject to emissions rules (at least in Illinois). This year I rebuilt the throttle body and replaced a couple fuel and coolant lines. I've taken a couple 500+ mile trips with this car and have not been let down. This car also has several useful upgrades that make driving it a more pleasant experience.Head unit was upgraded to a new Sony CD model by a previous owner. It has an AUX input, just plug in your iPod and you're good to go! The A/C was switched over to R134 a few years back. Recharged it this spring, it blows ICE COLD. Nice to have when you're in traffic and it's hot out.The steering wheel was replaced with an aftermarket Nardi wheel, probably around the same time as the head unit was replaced. The stock steering wheel and radio combination had steering wheel controls. I have a radio that I can include with the sale but I do not have a stock steering wheel.I have replaced the stock electric fan setup with a mechanical fan and shroud (rare) that bolts to the water pump. This was done in response to a stretch of 100* days in Chicago where the electric fans just couldn't keep up. With this setup I can sit in traffic with the A/C on full blast and the temp gauge won't budge above the halfway mark. I will be including the stock electric fans with the vehicle so it can be returned to stock trim if desired with no special tools or parts.Judging by the pictures you wouldn't believe it, but this is a 26 year old car and as such the paint has some stone chips on the front of the car and a few minor dings and scratches that have accumulated over the years. This car gets a LOT of attention wherever it goes, and the valet will usually leave it right out front if he has the option to. With the car I will include the following:FACTORY SERVICE MANUAL AND PARTS LOCATOR in electronic format on a thumb drive.Autometer boost gauge that fits into factory location (not installed)Mitsubishi Radio that will accept steering wheel controlsRed Valve Cover (not installed)Spare radiator and full electric fan set up.Front license plate bracket and hardware.Extra header panel. The one on the car reads Conquest, the stock one has a Mitsubishi logo on it and is generally worth more money.Extra grill, side markers and stock red foglight inserts.Intake manifold gasket and replacement hardware (bought them as a set with the exhaust manifold gasket but never needed it).Hard intake pipe, 1G DSM Mass Air Flow Sensor (good for a 10-15hp gain on the top end, I just never got around to installing it).Questionable vacuum pump, I think it's intermittent, I replaced it earlier this year and everything seems to be working much better now.Spare oil filterTransmission mountA full set of fusible links (they control the car's main circuits)Spare injector clips (common trouble spot, but the current ones will be OK for a while.)A full tank of gas if you click Buy It Now. :-)In summary if you're looking for a very clean example of a hard to find car, this is the one for you. These cars do require some routine maintenance, but if you like to tinker and work on your own cars this can be a very positive and rewarding ownership experience. It certainly was for me. Everything is fairly accessible from the top of the engine, and since it's rear-wheel-drive the engine bay isn't super cramped. It's a very good balance between a hobbyist car and a fun driver. Parts are widely available as the more beat up cars out there get parted out on the forums etc... As it sits right now the car needs nothing, buy it and enjoy racking up many more miles! No trades, cash or wire transfer only. Buyer to leave a $500 deposit within 24 hours of the end of the auction, with the balance to be paid in a week. I will work with the buyer to arrange shipping, but I will not cover any costs. Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions. The car is for sale locally and I reserve the right to end the auction at any time. Zero feedback bidders please contact me before you bid. Good luck! Bid with confidence, this is the one you don't have to worry about trailering home. I can pick you up from O'Hare or Midway Airport if you would like.
