Syracuseporsche....The 944/928 Guys FOR MORE INFORMATION VISIT US @ http://syracuseporsche.com/ 1988 PORSCHE 944*S....DUAL OVERHEAD CAMS** WHO ARE WE **My buddies and I are now retired. We are not a dealership nor are we a used car dealer. We are a couple of guys who are now back restoring Porsche cars again. We stay busy, provide a great Porsche when we are done with it, and are having a ton of fun in the mean time. Our offered services are growing, but this is only enhancing the quality of our finished projects. We invite you to test drive our cars for yourself, see them on the lift, and see for yourself….we have very nice Porsche cars. Yes we are a business; no we are not some kind of dealership….Thank you This is a fine example of a model they produced only 2 years. Pretty much a Perfect car. Under the car has been gone through and everything tightened up Feel free to take this one to the track….. OEM & Outstanding condition and impeccable service records also come with this car. 944 S1987–1988 Porsche 944S, with 16-valve engine For the 1987 model year, the 944S "Super" was introduced. The 944S featured a high performance normally aspirated, dual-overhead-cam 16-valve 192 PS (141 kW; 189 hp) version of the 2.5 litre engine (M44/40) featuring an self adjusting timing belt tensioner. This marked the first use of four-valve-per-cylinderheads and DOHC in the 944 series, derived from the 928S4 featuring a redesigned camshaft drive, a magnesium intake tract/passages, magnesium valve cover, larger capacity oil sump and revised exhaust system. The alternator capacity was 115 amps. The wheel bearings were also strengthened and the brake servo action was made more powerful. Floating 944 calipers were standard, but the rear wheel brake circuit pressure regulator from the 944 turbo was used. Discrete '16 Ventlier' script badges were added on the sides in front of the body protection mouldings. Performance was quoted as 0 – 100 km/h (62 mph) in 7.2 seconds and a 232 km/h (144 mph) top speed. It also featured an improved programmed Bosch Digital Motronic Computer/DME with dual knock sensors for improved fuel performance for the higher 10.9:1 compression ratio cylinder head. Like the 944 Turbo, the 944S received progressive springs for greater handling, revised transmission and gearing to better suit the 2.5-litre DOHC higher 6800 rpm rev limit. A Club Sport touring package was available. Dual air bags, limited-slip differential and ABS were optional on the 944S as was the lightweight 16 inch CS/Sport Fuch forged alloy wheels. This car was raced in Canada, Europe and in the USA IMSA Firehawk Cup Series. Production was limited to two years; 1987 and 1988 only. It was superseded in 1989 by the 'S2' 944 edition We reserve the right to close this Ad at anytime, the car is listed other places as well as locally in our area. $500.00 deposit required with in 48 hours of Ad closing, balance due upon pickup of the car. $500.00 deposit is Non-refundable CONTACT INFORMATION315-480-0200 Payment We accept….CASH, BANK WIRE TRANSFER INTO OUR BUSINESS ACCOUNT, OR CERTIFIED BANK CHECK….We do NOT accept BANK LOAN CHECKS…..CASH…take car, title & bill of saleBANK WIRE TRANSFER…..Take car, title & bill of saleCERTIFIED BANK CHECK…Take the car, title & bill of sale after check clears…__________________________________________________________________-When speculating the correct mileage on these 944’s one has to look at many different things. Some of the things I look for are as follows.Driver side seat track….If this track has rust on it, it could only be one of two things…the car was driven in the rain, or the car was stored outside. These are the only reasons why this track would have rust on it.Condition of the driver seat….The driver side seat can basically tell you the complete story of the cars mileage. It does not matter what the odometer says look for the overall condition of the seat as well as the wear in it. Any Porsche with 75,000 miles or less should be in almost perfect condition. Cars fewer than 50,000 miles should be NEW. Saw a 944 being sold as 27,000 miles and the seats had creases all over them. How do you get so many creases in the seat at that kind of mileage?Upper rear body mounts….There are two rubber body mounts located in the rear of the car above the rear shocks. These body mounts will always show the true age and mileage on the car. Very rarely does anybody change these items.Far end of the Cam tower….Most cars are leaking oil from the rear of the Cam tower cover. If you have a leak here it’s not just a simple fix.Oils sending uni….This unit has a copper crush washer on it and usually needs to crank a ¼ turn or so.Look at the front main engine seal…..This is located directly under the pulley in the front of the engine. If you have a leak here it’s not just a simple fix.Rear gas lines and filer….In the rear of the car the gas lines and break lines run along the bottom of the car and the bend and turn over the rear passenger side Control arm. The lines and the gas filter are right out in the open. If the cars has been driven in bad weather you will see the corrosion up in this area and the lines.Front end….There are many places to check and go over in the front end. Control arms, sway bar, tie rods, the steering rack, front struts, power steering pump, compressor, alternator, and always pull the cover and examine the belts and rollers for the Cam and Balance shaft.Odometer gear….The odometer gear has most likely broken over the life of the car, and if it hasn’t yet..IT WILL. The type of plastic the gear was made out of chemically reacted with the type of grease they used to lube it. This oil on the gear eats away the plastic gear….so if it has been replaced….when…and if not, change it because the gear will be soft and rotten. Fuses and Relay….Anybody advertising a Porsche and has the balls to say something does not work…it’s probably a fuse or relay already knows that’s what it’s NOT….If some option only needed a fuse or relay why would the owner just fix the items and charge more for the car????? Fuse/relay/ always more to it than thatDME and Alarm Brain boxes….These items are located under the carpet in the front on the passenger side of the car. Pull back the carpet and remove the wood board. Now you can inspect the area as well as the two units themselves. There should be NO evidence of water, moisture, or any other form of dampnessRear shifting linkage….On the manual transmission 944 you want to get the car up on a lift and inspect the area ABOVE the rear tranny. This is where your bushings and linkage are located for shifting the gears to the car. These rubber pieces over the years get warn and even broke leaving the car with sloppy shifter and loose gear shifting.Aluminum vs. steelAny place on the car that aluminum meets steel is going to have a special washer. These two different metals cannot touch or it will start major corrosion. I always look at these areas to see if the correct washers are in place or if some NON Porsche mechanic did a job and threw regular washers in.Any and all bodyworkIf the car has been in an accident and repaired. Look to see if all body work was done professionally or not. If you find any shortcuts on a Porsche it is a bad sign The yellow marks are the bolts we have tightened up under the car. I mark them so I know I don’t miss any of them. Also it shows us if anyone else services our car but us in the future.
