Vehicle Detail
This vehicle is being re-listed due to a non-paying bidder. For sale is my very cool 1957 Pontiac Chieftain Safari wagon hot rod. This Safari has an original numbers-matching 347 c.i.d. V8 motor mated to the original Hydramatic automatic transmission with 50,xxx original miles and a clear, ohio title. The car has a beautiful patina with the original Caribbean Coral paint (rare color) and original interior in excellent condition. The interior features all four original door panels in excellent condition and three rows of seats with the 3rd row seat being removable. A custom wood cargo floor has been installed. The seats are all original fabric in above average condition for their age (some light staining and small rips in various places). The body is in excellent condition as this car was stored indoors most of its life in Georgia. The original rocker panels and quarters have zero rust. There is no severe rust (beyond a bit of surface rust) anywhere on the car. The vehicle has new front floor pans. All doors close an open like a new car with no sagging. New wheels and tires are 20” coys in the rear and 18” coys in the front. The body has been wet sanded, buffed and waxed to a shine. The previous owner painted the pass. front fender with primer. I re-painted the fender with coral paint and it matches pretty well. All of the exterior stainless is complete and in great shape. The car runs exceptionally well, starts every time and never overheats....even in heavy traffic/hot weather. The transmission shifts smooth and the brakes are good. The power steering has a bit of play but could probably use an adjustment at the steering box. The car gets stares and thumbs up wherever it goes. You will never park next to another safari at your local cruise. There were only 11,000 safari wagons produced in 1957 and most were crushed or had their rear axles taken for hot rods of the day. This car is extremely rare and was one of the last 500 safaris manufactured in 1957 at the Pontiac, Michigan plant. These cars are next to impossible to find complete, let alone a numbers matching car with zero rust and all original systems and accessories in tact and working. The car has cool period details like a 1970 Georgia Highway Patrol inspection sticker in the window and 60‘s and 70‘s service record stickers in the door jambs and glove box.
