To everyone who was watching this item and to the person who had placed a bid. I apologize. Ebay removed the listing because they said I had to mark it as "Salvage" title. I'm appealing that but in the meanwhile, I've complied just so the listing can continue. I explained the title snafu below and it is backed up by the vehicle history available through this listing. So please go ahead and re-bid with confidence. My NJ Title says "Standard" on it and that's what you'll get if you win. There is nothing in the history of the car that would warrant a "Salvage" title, but it is what it is. Thank you for your patience and for bidding. Reserve is low. 1998 BMW 540i The Good: I bought the car with 5,300 miles in 2000 and have owned it ever since. I have most of the receipts for the major items maintained. I've ALWAYS changed the oil at 3,000 miles, which is way more often than is required (I think this car can go 5,000 or 7,500 between oil changes). It has always been good to me and I'm sorry to see it go. Not many cars have this type of curb appeal. The car drives like a dream. Excellent acceleration and handling. Never had a problem with the engine. 8 Cylinder - 4.0 Liter. It's a very strong engine and has been maintained meticulously. No leaks, No engine codes or warning lights. All four brake discs/rotors and pads changed about 6 mos ago. (They're still brand new). Brake dust hasn't even yet coated the hub part-you can see this in the close up picture of the wheels. I changed both Catalytic Converters in 2007 ($4,000) Fully Loaded. Black Leather in excellent condition, no rips, tears or abrasions. BMW All Weather Rubber Mats (front and back). Original Carpet Mats are in perfect condition and I will include them. Traction Control (DSC)-Dynamic Stability Control Power Seats, Steering, ABS Power Brakes, Mirrors ( Passenger side mirror tilts down automatically when car is in reverse, to help you preserve your wheels.-you can switch to turn off this feature). Aftermarket alloy wheels - about 1 year old with BMW centercaps. Look real sharp Full size spare and jack as well as the important parts of the OEM toolkit all included. Extra bulbs. Premium Audio System (I believe Blaupunkt) with Dynamic Sound and customizable sound fields and full equalizer . 6 CD BMW OEM changer. You can get additional 6-CD magazines for unlimited listening. Tires still in good shape--These are the low profile tires that are especially sharp on this car. OEM Xenon Angel Eyes Headlights-I swapped them in myself. Halogen Fog Lights. Please look at my feedback ratings. 100% favorable. Why? Simple, because I have never stuck it to anybody. Honestly, I'd sooner junk this car than have someone think I was dishonest with them. So, here's what's not so hot about this car, just so you know what you're purchasing. There are small paint chips here and there around the car, as would be expected for a 15 year old car. The bumpers have some scrapes where paint is missing. Look at the pictures It needs some body work on the passenger side front fender and passenger door. Look at the pictures. It needs a strut/shock. One fog light needs a bulb replaced. It worked till this week. Passenger side heated seat doesn't heat up. It may be something minor-I've never looked into it because I rarely have passengers. Rear drivers side window doesn't work. Will need a window motor. They're available on ebay. Over the years, this car has had some accidents and bodywork. It has always been repaired right and brought to spec with machinery whose tolerances EXCEED BMW's own tolerances. This car may have had a salvage title way back when I bought it. This is what I know: The car was stolen from the original owner when it had only 5,300 miles on it. The insurance company paid out the original owner in full and didn't recover the car for a few months. When it was ultimately recovered (parked in Manhattan), it had damage to the rear passenger side door and some dent on the driver side rear quarter panel. NO frame damage, only cosmetic (or I would have never bought it). Since the insurance company had already paid out on the car and it needed a new door, they "totaled" it and it I believe it wound up with a salvage title. I purchased it at under market value, bought a door for it, had it painted and took it to Motor Vehicles so they could inspect the VIN numbers from the new door (to make sure I didn't get it from some chop shop), and got a "Standard" (clean) title, which it certainly deserves. The car didn't have more than cosmetic damage. That's it--nothing to be concerned about but now you know. I have all the paperwork from the transactions. So, in spite of all the excellent things about this car, I'm listing it with a reserve price that is well below Kelly Blue Book Value for a "Fair" Condition comparable- check it yourself. Your gain.
