Vehicle Detail

A real opportunity: 1966 Pontiac Bonneville. V8 389 engine. Silver. About 127,000 original miles. A little history: The car was purchased new by my grandfather on January 21, 1966 in California. After he died in 1972, my grandmother drove it mostly to the grocery store and back. Otherwise it was serviced and kept in the garage. At some point in the 80’s some work was done on it to bring it up to California emission standard, this added the air pump, and allows it to use unleaded gasoline. My dad took over the car in 1996, but only drove it a mile back and forth to work. It was also repainted at this point (still the original silver). I took the car in 1999, and drove it regularly for about three years. When I moved to the Chicago area in 2005 the car was garaged in California until we shipped it out here in 2008. Since then it has either been parked in my driveway or my garage, but not really driven much. It has all the original chrome work on the side panels, as well as the wheel skirts. The interior is in fairly good shape too. The bones are great. This isn’t a rusted out old wreck. It needs paint, but mostly the things a person would expect to do when doing a restoration project. We have the original owner’s manuals, as well as the original Pontiac Protect-o-Plate. That’s pretty cool in itself. My sons and I have done little bits of work on it, but we really don’t have the time, skill, or money to do what the car deserves. We’ve recently replaced the fuel pump. It runs (and sounds great), but stalls out when you put it in gear. We think the carburetor need to be rebuilt. Right now, my auction starts at $5000. If it doesn’t sell now, and I get around to doing the carburetor in a couple of months, and get it totally road-ready, my auction then will start higher. I don’t want to let it go, but if you love something set it free, right? It needs a good home with someone who can restore her to her greatness.
